My favorite is my Lovepedal Black Dragon which is a hybrid si/germ,like Roger Mayer's Axis-like Jimi's tone. The silicon fuzzes I tried were too harsh. The hybrid is just right.

IMO the Fuzz Head is not the pedal for heavy thick sustaining fuzz. Its strength is that it is more articulate and open and uncompressed. It's also very quiet, which reminds me that noise seems to be the trade off for heavy fuzz. Ughhh. Noise.

I really liked my Hot Silicon, but the Hartman, and Gypsy Fuzz, are tops with me

I voted for the Fuzz Head. I really like mine a lot and use it as a lead boost or as a core tone because it's really articulate and it responds well to the guitar's volume knob.

RM Axis Fuzz is a Si fuzz (one PNP Si transistor and one NPN Si transistor), not si/germ... ;)

Anyway, a vote for Axis Fuzz from me... :)

Do you guys who play the Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face think that the effect is loud enough?
I've never played thru one, but I find some fuzzes don't offer enough level boost...what are your opinions?

This drives me nuts! While I realize how certain pedals are supposed to work (leave the pedal on and control all the shades of clean and dirt with the guitar's volume knob), sometimes I just want to run the fuzz through a clean channel and then stomp on it and get more volume along with the fuzz. Germ fuzz faces don't typically give you a boost. I had two excellent examples in the Sunface and Hartman NKT and while both sounded stellar at what they do, I needed the volume boost. The Huckleberry and Everman Ultradrive were also weak when I stompled on them. Lovepedal Dragon gave me a little boost with a clean amp. I recently got a Hartman 8va which lets you switch off the octave and just use the fuzz and that one has a huge boost. I believe his silicon BC108 will as well. In the Muff family, I have Euthymia ICBM and that one can also boost the signal.

    Sorry, haven't played the Hendrix.
