So, I am in the market (again) to buy a Vox AC30CC, but still not very happy with all the plasticky parts made in China.

So, what brands and models you guys recommend to get that AC30 tone with quality construction, and why?

I would track down a Vox AC30HW. One of the UK built ones from a couple years back. I love mine.

Hard to beat the Valvetech Hayseed 30.. great sound and price is right also!!! Oh yeah... wired by hand here in the USA... and you can pick how it is going to look.. where you want the controls... front or top... all sorts of good stuff going on there.

JMI Amplification AC30/6 is my favorite AC30...more than the the Vox in $, but about the best AC30 clone you can get, IMHO.

Hayseed 30. Rob's a great guy, super service and his amp is just wonderful. He built me one (2x12 Weber Ceramic Blues, EF86) about 2 years ago and it just sounded awesome. I sold it after a year, just did not need the Vox sound, although I was really conflicted, because it sounded so good. I'm sure many of you have been in the same position with gear; sounds awesome but don't really need it. Get one because they're great, not because it's 1/2 the price of most "boutique" AC30's. I owned 1 (2) of the 90's English Vox AC30's, went thru 2 in 2 weeks, both broke. Wouldn't go near another.

Paul over at Nolatone makes some interesting variations on the concept.

    I like the switchable EF86/12AX7 feature........seems useful

Some nice choices! I also need effects loop! It seems Hayseed 30, for instance, does not have one.

I went to Nolatone website and the video demos were removed by the owner . . .

I played through a friend's TopHat, and that's when I really understood 'chime' and 'bloom'... I then went and played several AC30s and couldn't find that same tone, so bought my own TopHat - something else you should look at, IMO

Most of the Budda Amps do a good AC 30. My hand wired Superdrive 30 does a good AC 30 and has a great dirty channel to boot!

Thanks for the replies! Now, I'll just have to find these amps and somehow try them out.
