    I currently use the folowing:

    crunch box
    blues pro
    t rex moller
    sd-1

I heard rats and voxes are a match made in heaven. Any truth to this? Any other recommendations? I'm thinking of either the tube zone, dr swamp, dr scientist elements, or triple wreck.

Does your Vox have a bright cap? I found that getting rid of those on both channels of my AC15c1 helped a great deal towards getting good tone from drive pedals. I use a vintage RAT and an Analogman DS-1.

I use a timmy, maxon od pro, and my own modded SHO clone. All of which sound great stacked or by themselves through my ac15ccx. Best vox tone Ive heard was my friend's G2D creamtone through his ac15h1tv on the ef86 channel.

    Timmy>Nobels ODR-1>Tube Zone>Morgan AC20 Deluxe.

Timmy is always on, stack others as needed, glorious.

I have an AC15C1 and have run many OD's into it. I haven't plugged a "Marshall in a box" pedal into it that I didn't like. In no particular order, here are my most favored matches:

    Crowther Hotcake (owned 2)
Freakshow Brown Rabbit (owned 3, Rat variant w/ versatility, on my board now)
Catalinbread Dirty Little Secret v2 (have MKII I won on the way)
    ZVex Box of Rock
    Lovepedal Les Lius
Rockett Flex Drive (quite versatile, on my board now)
Death By Audio Interstellar Overdriver (owned 2, on my board now)

As you can see, I've owned some of these 2 or 3 times now.

These I did not care for so much:

    Bearfoot Honeybee OD
    Mad Professor SHOD
    Klone
    Timmy

    :omg

I know, the ones I liked least are highly regarded TGP OD's. I'm not saying they are "bad" pedals or don't mesh well with a Vox. I do think the SHOD is overrated, though. The HBOD sounded good but I am mainly a singer/rhythm player and it sounded best to me when soloing. Likewise, the Timmy is an excellent pedal, but too hifi and glossy for my style. I fully acknowledge the subjectivity.

EDIT: I've yet to perform a bright cap mod, so I may have had better luck with some of these if I had done it.

    Haven't seen a FullDrive mentioned.

Guys will knock it because it's not trendy enough, but it's been my OD of choice since '02.

    It just flat out WORKS.

I used to use a fulldrive 2 and it wasnt bad, but it would kill my low end. I would be playing clean with nice full sound, then id kick on the fd2 and it sounded good, but it was lacking in the low end range.

I never had a concern about what to make a Vox combo grind, until I found out some of my favorite Blackmore/Purple tones, were a Germanium Treble Boost, in front of the chimey AC30. Surely everyone's aware of Brian May's almost Sabbath level gain with the same formula. Others as well; Free, Tull etc.
