Well, these things are on sale for less than a Squier CV and since I sold my LP I don't have a solidbody guitar with humbuckers.
I was looking at MIJ SG's but I like single cut guitars although I love SG's sound!

What's the word on these? I've read nice reviews but don't know if it was just the honeymoon period.
I will buy online cause my local stores don't carry them.

I heard the translucid ones have an ash top, what could make them lighter.
That's good cause I want something to come along with my tele and she's lightweight.

I wish the 55's were available too because of the pickup options and because I love neck binding but, I think I can live without it.

Don't really know what colour to choose if I go for one...

What made you not like the pickups?
I thought they were the same as the most expensive line but with one less sound option!

The guitar I had, had a weird neck feel and sharp frets, pickups and tone pretty useless. It had a great ergonomic body though. Wanted to like it but wasn't my cup o tea and sold it for a HUGE loss.

I had one and it was flawless. Perfect frets, not a single cosmetic issue, played great, the bridge is a work of art, and I thought the pickups were fantastic. If you're looking for it to sound just like a Les Paul with humbuckers or P90s, you might be disappointed. The pickups have a voicing of their own that is close to both of those standard options in the two different modes, but different enough to bring something else to the table. The pickups are very articulate, punchy, and balanced.

Obviously others have had a different experience, but that was mine. I bought mine for $180 and it was probably the best value I've ever found in a guitar that inexpensive. I wouldn't have sold it if I didn't end up needing the money.

I had the more $$$$ double cut-away, bound neck bound model, which is dif from the above. THEY DO have nice bridges!

I have a sdc-55 that I really like. I find the pickups to be extremely versatile and much more responsive to volume and tone adjustments than standard pickups. I set the volume at about 8 to get the same breakup as my SD Alnico II's on 10. That said, it seems like Vox had some QC issues. The pickup covers on mine warped and bent up and away from the pickups slightly. Not a huge deal. 15 minutes with a hair dryer fixed them.

Also, I have an extra bridge sitting in my parts drawer if anyone is serious about wanting one...
