    Hi Folks,
Looking for a suggestion for a middle pup on my '04 am std Strat. Right now I have:

Bridge - Dimarzio Virtual Vintage Blues - 8.28K
    Neck - Dimarzio Area '61 - 6.46K

What would work best in the middle with both of those? Priority is good blend for 2 and 4 position.

Most likely would stay with Dimarzio area or v-v series...

    Suggestions?

    Thanks!

I've been singing the praises of the Dimarzio VV Blues as a neck pickup for a long time.

Take the 61 and move it to the middle and get another VV Blues. The slightly lower output of the 61 in the middle will increase the quack in positions 2 and 4 AND you'll get a VV Blues in the neck position.

Thanks for suggestion! I think tho if I moved the VV Blues to the neck I'd want an even hotter one for the bridge....

But I'll count that as half a vote for another '61 (position 2 '61 mid/VV Blues bridge)

Here's my '62 RI strat with DiMarzio VV pus straight into my JTM-45 Metro clone. I actually used the low gain input of the "Normal" channel for all clips. The EQ stayed the same on the amp...the only thing that changed was the volume 3, 6 and 10 and the guitars settings (pu changes as well as knob turning etc). I used my attenuator to tame the volume a bit and also for it's loop for the delay(2290). I used an oversized 2x12 Germino cab and 2 Scumnico speakers.

Area 61 neck, Area 67 middle (no tone control), Virtual solo for bridge...I really like the bridge pu btw. I have another guitar with the the Heavy Blues in the neck and I really like it too.

I really like the VV/Area line.

Hey thanks for the clips! sounds GREAT!!! That solo sounds sweet at the bridge!

I think for this guitar the VV-Blues is as hot as I'd like to go, I've got a HSS too and would like this one to be the twangy one....

Tho that Pro sound you got is mighty compelling! (I need more strats!!!)

'67 might be a good choice for the middle! Thanks!

jackaroo, did you change any of the pots or cap values? I'm thinking of going with your exact setup and my strat is already wired with tone pots on the bridge and neck.

    Thanks, Mark

One of my strats has 250K pots all the way...the other has a 250 on the Vol and 500s on the two tones. They both sound really nice. I prefer the guitar with the blended pot values, but prefer the pickups in the other...either way, it's a great solution to single coil hum and anemic bridge pickups. The Solo is so great for strats.

Thanks Jack. I'm on my way today to pick 'em up. Too bad you weren't a little closer to poughkeepsie. I could use some jazz lessons. Thanks for the info though :AOK

I think you'll get more quack out of 2 & 4 is you go with something a little weaker in the middle, Area 67?

OK I got the Virtual Solo... WOW! it is massive! the first thing I noticed was the weight even before I took it out of the little plastic box! ha!

Tonewise, very similar to the VV-Blues, but MORE of it! esp low end. Right now its on a no-load tone pot and I do like it much better w/pot slightly engaged, will prob swap out the pot next....

I moved the VV-Blues to the neck and the '61 to the middle.... so ratio's are:

    Bridge - Hottest (11.17K) Solo
    Middle - Weakest (6.4K) '61
    Neck - In between (8.28K) VV-Blues

havin lotsa fun w/this! Thanks for all the input!!!
