Well, everyone's got their faves. Jim Wagner's rep around here is pretty high, and deservedly so. A lot of us have probably become aware of his pickups through this board. One of those net things...happens sometimes. I can't say I've tried "all the others" but I do love Wagner's pickups...

I haven't taken the plunge yet. (I need to get an R7/H150/Hamer Monaco-type Fat Tone Appliance first) ... But I've already had a few email exchanges with Jim and he is indeed the chosen one for this crucial task. Email (or better, call) him, let him know what sound(s) you intend to realize, and he'll give you the ballpark hardware to nail it. The rest of the discovery is in your fingers.

Jim used to make some single coil strat type pickups called SRs. I was lucky to get a pair before he stopped making them. He said they're a real PITA to make but maybe if you call him, you can talk him into you some (but you didn't hear that from me :D)... I've got some MP3s I made with mine:

    Castles Made of Sand

    Spanish Castle Magic

This guy makes the best friggin' pickups ever!

I have a Gibson ES347 that I loaded with a Crossroads in the neck and Goodwood in the bridge.

I put in push/pull pots on the tone knobs for individual coil taps and I used the old coil tap switch on the ES-347 for putting the neck out of phase.

I just used this guitar to record a ton of sound clips for Pigtronix

Here are few select ones that show off Jim's pickups:

These are using both pickups coil tapped:

Bang Bang clean then overdrive (home studio)

Bang Bang clean the with four OFO sounds (pro studio)

This uses both pickups without coil taps:

    Touch Sensitive Overdrive (pro studio)

    This uses Goodwood Bridge alone:

    Metal mama (pro studio)

    Fuzz Nutz (http://www.pigtronix.com/audio/koltaihome/fuzz nutz cut.mp3)

This uses the Crossroads Neck alone:

Octava Lead Fuzz / Santana (pro studio)

More clips using this same guitar can be found here: Pigtronix Audio Library
