Wampler Velvet Fuzz - Do I need it on my Pedalboard

Damn, I forgot a question mark!

I currently have 4 Gain pedals....

Ibanez Mini Tube Screamer, Fulltone OCD, MXR M75 SBAD, and a Wampler Sovereign.

Alone or stacked I get pretty much any tone I want from Dirty cleans to Metal.
I don't really like modern metal. I am more in to Blues, Jazz, Fusion, and Hard Rock/Hair Bands.

Both of my Fender amps need pedals, my Marshalls can get by without them, but they sound great with them.

How will a Wampler Velvet Fuzz fit in with my set-up?

Yes I have room for it, I just got a thinner power strip than the one shown.

The Velvet Fuzz is totally different than any of your gain pedals! "NEED" is a personal call... I love mine, but for me it's more of a specialty effect used sparingly. I've always preferred ODs over distortion or fuzz, but love when I hear others playing a fuzz... This is where the VF shines, it sounds like a fuzz (sorta) but reacts more like an OD.

For drives I use a VF ->EP booster ->KoT -> Klone... I'll generally only use the VF for the occasional lead combined with the yellow side (edge of breakup) of the KoT to add a little bit of mids. Your TS would do the same type of thing.

I would not need it to be a constantly used effect, but maybe cool to change the tone or phrasing in a lead for a passage or two.

I ended up ordering the Wampler Velvet Fuzz last night, can't wait to see if it makes the board permanently.

I added one for fun and it ended up staying. It's different than dirt/gain, I like the "thick" saturation you can get with it. I think if you play with it you'll find sounds you can use. I found some that were inspiring. Brian's pedals are like Mesa Amps - IMHO - the controls DO STUFF. With this control comes "responsibility". You can get them to sound fantastic or like dog squeeze... depending on how YOU set them. ;)

If I get 1-2 tones I like I will be happy.
I like to set it and forget it if possible.

I want to know how you will a) use the Velvet Fuzz with your Marshall DSL40C (e.g. which channel and which mode) and b) how you like it.

I have the VF and use it with my Marshall DSL100H on the green channel set to OD mode - slight breakup. Sounds great and sometimes I push the VF with a TubeScreamer too.

My bet is I will use it on the Green channel set to clean or crunch with the gain on the amp dimed.

The Velvet Fuzz arrived...

I like using it on the Green Clean channel with the gain dimed

Really nice, sounds like a Darker Fuzzier Sovereign.
The Velvet Fuzz is definitely more distortion than fuzz to my ears which is a good thing.

I must admit, the MXR M75, Sovereign, and Velvet Fuzz have a lot of similar tones.

I could part with one of the two, the Sovereign or MXR, and still have all the tones I need.
