Greek legends state that War Pigs were used in ancient battle as a counter weapon against War Elephants. Pliny the Elder reported that "elephants are scared by the smallest squeal of the hog".

Another strategy was to douse the pigs with pitch, crude oil or resin, set them on fire, and drive them towards the enemy's massed war elephants. The elephants bolted in terror from the flaming, squealing pigs, often killing great numbers of their own soldiers by trampling them to death.

This blazoned historical imagery is, without doubt, the true inspiration for Black Sabbath's hard hitting masterpiece, "War Pigs".

The question I have and my research is ongoing, is what was their inspiration for their masterful, "A Bit of Finger"?

I thought it was a garbled version of the original title "Walpurgis".

    What?

    From wiki...

No mention of burning pigs or sending them to scare elephants...

The original title of "War Pigs" was "Walpurgis", dealing with the witches' sabbath.[1][2] "Walpurgis is sort of like Christmas for Satanists. And to me, war was the big Satan", said bassist and lyricist Geezer Butler. "It wasn’t about politics or government or anything. It was (about) evil. So I was saying 'generals gathered in the masses/just like witches at black masses' to make an analogy. But when we brought it to the record company, they thought 'Walpurgis' sounded too Satanic. And that’s when we turned it into ‘War Pigs.’ But we didn’t change the lyrics, because they were already finished."[3] Prior to its official release, the band often altered the lyrics significantly when performing it live.[4] An example of this can be found on Ozzy Osbourne's compilation The Ozzman Cometh, which features an early version recorded by Black Sabbath for BBC Radio 1 on April 26, 1970.[5] While Butler has said that War Pigs is "totally against the Vietnam War, about how these rich politicians and rich people start all the wars for their benefit and get all the poor people to die for them",[6] vocalist Osbourne has stated that the group "knew nothing about Vietnam. It's just an anti-war song."[7]

That's a good candidate and I think we're on the right track. Certainly 'fingering' is a hot topic on the internet.

I think the inspiration for those riffs was beer and weed.

Sappers would dig under the wall of a castle and herd pigs into the hole, cram the hole with firewood and oil and set it on fire, all that bacon grease burning would crumble the wall from heat

I think it bears a striking contemporary resemblance to New England's use of deflated footballs to win against the Clots.

Would those pigs be OK for Chipotle's, considering that they're already partially cooked?

Yeah probably. I grew up in Chesterfield Mo. in the 80's and I guess because his wife was from St. Louis, Geezer Butler lived about a block away from me, on a normal suburban street, in a nice, but unremarkable house. The only time I saw him up close was when I went into a little gas station by the house and he was in there buying beer (the cheapest they had, I noticed ) with another guy and one of them smelt a bit like stale weed. So yeah, probably beer and weed.
