Greek legends state that War Pigs were used in ancient battle as a counter weapon against War Elephants. Pliny the Elder reported that "elephants are scared by the smallest squeal of the hog". Another strategy was to douse the pigs with pitch, crude oil or resin, set them on fire, and drive them towards the enemy's massed war elephants. The elephants bolted in terror from the flaming, squealing pigs, often killing great numbers of their own soldiers by trampling them to death. This blazoned historical imagery is, without doubt, the true inspiration for Black Sabbath's hard hitting masterpiece, "War Pigs". The question I have and my research is ongoing, is what was their inspiration for their masterful, "A Bit of Finger"?
