Different strokes I guess. I never understood people praising M Bloomfield and G moore, but love Peter Green.

Thank you for posting this version, i haven't heard this one live..... I'll get to the other two videos in an hour or so when I get enough of this one.....

    :bow:bow

    If:
    A) this is 'fake' blues, and
    B) that 8-yr old is REALLY playing Paul Gilbert's Scarified (and I think she is....)

    .... Then I give up.

Okay, I'll answer but don't turn this around on me.

Like em both a lot, especially Clapton or at least Clapton up to the mid 70's.

I'm not sure I'm following. I made the (sarcastic) comment about the diddley bow, and that's the exact point - blues is NOT one thing. It's not just guitar, it's not just piano, or harp, or electric or acoustic or black or white or young or old or 1930s or 2010s or American or European or fast or slow or solo or group... it's an evolving genre with a long and rich history with a lot of different branches.

There's "stuff you like" and "stuff you don't." The whole "fake" versus "real" blues label is kind of silly, imho. If you don't like someone's music, cool, but that doesn't make it fake. I don't even know what that means. If it moves them and if it moves their fans then it's real enough. Blues gets put under this microscope - I guess some of these people won't be happy unless nobody is playing blues because they wanted it to die in 1950 and anything after that is some kind of assault.

Considering that B.B. King said that Peter Green was the only man who ever made him sweat. Numerous other blues legends (not to mention peers, and those he influenced), have held him in high regard. I'd say that it's just a matter of you not enjoying his playing.

I see that and raise you this

http://youtu.be/UbCtA0x9qg4 (sorry, embedding the videos isn't working for me for whatever reason).

After listening to at least some of the songs posted I think it boils down to his phrasing that doesn't connect for me. In the video of PG I quoted he doesn't give you much for a long time into the song. There's so much empty space in there that the band isn't (maybe that's the problem?) filling up either. (Don't jump on me for that, I get silence in music can be powerful too).

I like the guys playing, don't know if I dig the thin out of phase thing drenched in reverb so much. I don't think he faked a thing. He definitely found his voice.

Being 36 I did not grow up with his music, having only "discovered" him in the last decade. There is some of his work that I don't care for, but much of it I find brilliant.

I like less wank...more stank. To each his own, though.

That's silly IMO...........white blues players emulate black blues performers because they love their music not because they had the blues.

That said I have no idea why people love PG or Paul Kossoff

As I said earlier, there is nothing wrong with not liking someone's playing. There is however, something terribly pretentious with saying someone you don't like must be faking it.
