Did Gibson just make that so you'd pay another few hundred for a Jr not associated with Billie Joe?
The big problem with the Billie Joe was that Gibson completely blew it with that noise cancelling P90
I like that they sell for fairly cheap used!
I hear the snark in the OP - you are welcome to think that Billie Joe is an uncool player. But for what he is trying to do, he does an excellent job - and he writes hit songs that are produced reasonably well with a good guitar tone that a lot of folks enjoy.
When I play at my kids' elementary school - my band just played there last week at their Back to School party (you haven't felt good as a performer until you've had a few dozen 3rd and 4th graders pogoing to the Ramones in front of you) - the kids went nuts when we played Green Day. I could see the kids deciding how to demand a guitar from their parents ;-) - what's not to love about that?
What the f**k is side boob? No, wait a second, I think I'm getting it! If it's what I think it is - I like it.
Oh yeah - Wordman's got a point, but was the OP slagging off Billie Joe? He was slagging off Gibson with their shady marketing - they can now get a bit more money for a Jnr from the people that don't like Green Day? They are out there you know.
Perhaps there's some underlying, maybe overt, snark in my question but really. I seem to remember Gibson offered a cheaper USA Jr reissue. Then that was discontinued, we got the Billie Joe, and the only alternatives now are more expensive VOS deals.
It's some of the best stuff they can show on TV.
I'd buy a sig guitar of a player I hated if it was the guitar I wanted from a features/price/I-played-it-and-really-liked-it point of view. Maybe not if it had a big picture of the guy painted on it, but otherwise, why not? If I passed just because it was associated, that to me would be cutting off my nose to spite my face, as the saying goes.
As far Green Day goes, I'm too senile to be a full on fan and actually own any CD's, but I usually enjoy their stuff when I hear it.
