So, where can I get some nice looking water slide decals made up?

I see WSD ink jet paper available all over the place but I'm interested in gold and silver lettering and I suspect it would take a better process to get good colors. Anyone have any words o' wisdom on this topic?

You can get good water slide papaer from most on-line hobby shops that deal in trains. Also, Small Bear Electronics sells it.
But....don't try to use an ink jet printer, regardless of what it says.
    It'll smear big time.
Make your design and then have someobody (Office Max etc. ) use a Laser
printer. Take take the paper home and spray the entire sheet with "Crystal Clear" to protect it.

I may be a little out of my league here, so maybe some of the real graphics arts guys will pipe in - but I believe you would need to do your art with a drawing program such as Adobe Illustrator, using Spot colors, and have it printed at a print shop for the metallic silver/gold we usually see on guitar decals - ala 'Fender'.

As far as do-able colors with a typical home PC, I've not had any problems at all with inkjet WS decals smearing - but you've gotta reduce the amount of ink used with your printer settings (use 'normal' quality, etc - which on a good inkjet printer still provides plenty of detail) and let it dry thoroughly before applying a thin clear coat, which also needs to dry well before use.

Wow, that's very cool - I didn't know anyone did that service. The other thing inkjets can't do is white, which is no prob for these guys.

I have a high speed thermal printer here and I'd be willing to print your labels provided you supply the film and label stock. AFAIK, the printer only does single colors though.
