I am looking to get some new speakers for a 4x10 cabinet and I've settled on getting 2 Weber blue pups and 2 Silver 10s. The problem I'm having is deciding whether to go with the alnicos or the ceramics in terms of sensitivity/efficiency. I've researched plenty on the tonal differences between the 2 magnets but my ultimate question is which magnet would have a higher db rating and by roughly how much?

Thanks for any input.

I don't know what the differences are for the 10" speakers, but for the 12" ones the ceramic is more efficient by a couple of db I think.

You should ask over on the Weber website if you've not already done so - I think they've got an ask us a question section?

I'll bet it will be ceramic, no matter which speaker you choose. Ask them, they can help. Remember that 3db at 1 meter is a huge difference to the human ear.

The ceramic is louder. Years ago I had a 2x12 cab with a ceramic and alnico Weber blue in it. Ted made the ceramic a cusom order, with a small magnet so it wouldn't blast over the alnico. Great sounding cab . . .

Sounds like a great 4x10 to me. I have a 2x10 with the same compliment of silver ten and blue pup (ceramic) and love it.................
