Do humbuckers have to be overwound to be darker toned or less bitey? What exactly or the theories involved attribute to a pickups tones? I'm speaking along the lines of more traditional PAF types in general. What about magnet choices per frequencies they enhance, etc? I ask, I have a LP that I think is just a great guitar, but bright in general. I have Dr. V's in it now and it is too bright for me. Don't get me wrong, sounds good, but I'd prefer less highs and more low mids. Heck my Strat with overwound (Rios) tends to be woolier and bassier. Problem is, I don't really want dirty pickups, I love being able to roll off the volume and it clean up failry well. Am I missing something simple here?
