I remain as interested in listening to the music created by others as I am in playing music. Through the years (a lot of them!) I went from a one box record player in my youth to very high quality gear that lets me feel almost like the musicians are in my listening room. In the end, whether you own vintage audio gear or the latest and greatest innovations, it is the love of music that stands out. I'm hoping that enough members here have an interest in stereo equipment.

I'm in! I've got a mix of vintage, new, and DIY stuff. Just recently ordered a Bottlehead BeePre kit and I'll post some pics when I get going on it. It's a 300B based preamplifier to replace the BH Foreplay II I built some years ago.

I was afraid that someone would ask that! Not counting headphones and headphone amps, my system consists of:

Clearaudio Master Reference turntable, with 12" Clearaudio arm and Koetsu Onyx Platinum cartridge
    Aesthetix Rhea Signature phono preamp
Aesthetix Romulus DAC and CD player
    Balanced Audio Technologies 52SE preamp
    Aesthetix Atlas Signature amp
    Focal L&R Utopia speakers

That's what happens after years of suffering from audiophilia!

Then I'm sure you were even more afraid of this one. Total cost?:D

That's going to receive a nice generalized answer. ;)
Much less than the retail prices. Much of my gear was purchased used or involved trades over a period of 30+ years. It's the only way I could build up a system like this one (image below). My latest journey is through the world of headphones and headphone amps but I'll save that for another thread!

Used to own a Theta DAC, believe that Aesthetix guy(s) are former Theta.

Brian, have/can you play CPM files upconverted to DSD on the Aesthetix?

The Romulus does not do DSD, or at least mine doesn't. Not sure if newer models do.

Do you still play CDs? Or have you gone 100% computer audio on digital files, what I have done?

My experience is that CD rips played from RAM using Pure Music or Audirvana, upsampled from 44.1 to 192 sound way better than spinning CDs (my last CD player was a Wadia 861i). Do you use one of these players?

I also find it easier to find music using iTunes or other player library management features...large collections of CDs are hard to manage, type font on edge of CDs are tiny...have ripped 2,000+ CDs or about 1.3 GBs of data.

Glad to see this forum resurrected Brian. Hope you are doing well!

Let me throw out some info on the research I have been doing for the past year.

I finally got moved back into a house where I could play music loud again. I had to sell my Dunlavy SC-V's because they were too big to move and use in the condo we lived in for a while. Also sold the Bryton 4B SST amp to drive them. I needed new speakers and an amp and my research led me to Revel (division of Harman/JBL). I have been finding a lot of information and learning so much from what I have read, it's amazing what I had missed over the past decade or so.

The team there (Kevin Voecks, Sean Olive, Floyd Toole, Charles Sprinkle etc) have done incredible things to advance the art and science of speaker design.

Google JBL M2 and Revel Salon 2 and check out what has gone into creating these products.

Their research has trickled down into products like the Revel Performa3 series (I bought the F208's) and studio monitors like the JBL 3, 5 and 7 series. I bought a new Bryston 3B SST2 amp because it is enough power and I have used Bryston products for decades. The sound quality of the Revel and Bryston combination is shocking at the price point.
