I was just driving my daughter to work and saw a pair of unmarked, but obviously military tan, tiltrotor aircraft flying about 300 ft above the shopping center roofline.

It reminded me of the V-22 Osprey, but the tail wasn’t right. I’ve been scouring the interwebs for an image to share. The closest is the V-280 Valor, but I didn’t think that was far enough into the program to have seen two flying yet.

At any rate, very cool. [IMG]

Nah. The nose on theirs looks more like a fighter cockpit. This one looked like a transport’s cockpit.

Definitely manned aircraft. I could see the tiny pilots, they were so low by the time they went by. There’s a small municipal airport about 30 sec flight time from there that the various Military arms routinely fly in and out of. I assume they landed there, as they were so low and gone five minutes later when I was coming back home. I tried the airport overlook, hoping to get some photos, or at least another look, but couldn’t see them.

That’s the closest base, but they do training excercises out of Spirit of St. Louis in Chesterfield.

I would face palm you, but when they were 500 yards out, the thought crossed my mind. Too big, though.

Not likely the Valor, that just did full power tests in October. Unlikely to be 2 flying near any population center until they are flight certified.

Not sure if the Osprey has had any tail mods in the latest revisions. They have had a number of updates based o their high failure rates.

That’s what I was thinking on the valor, but it definitely did not have the original osprey tail. There are a couple of other tiltrotors that are shaped right, but they’re commercial and, as such, wouldn’t be flying without tail numbers.

It's just the weekly data collection from your electric meter.
