Bought it used from GC more than a year ago....someone interested points out the decal is wrong. I honestly never noticed.

Turns out it’s likely not a Fender at all...now to figure out what they sold me.

Not at all thrilled with GC.....they’re wrong more than they’re right.

EDIT: I've run the serial number through Fender's search and it doesn't come up with anything. Tuner screws are phillip head where all the body screws are flat head. Looks like the neck pickup could be a Twisted Tele (will pull it tonight) but the cloth wires of the bridge pickup look wrong. Maybe a '58 neck on a '55 body....

EDIT: Confirmed with Wildwood that it's their body but not the right neck.

Yikes. Many years ago my local GC had a 60's Tele for sale at absolute top retail price. I had them take it apart for inspection prior to buying and it turned out to be a Fender neck and a "who knows" body. Unbelievable that they would still be doing this.

I'll need to take it all apart.....neck is stamped GONZALES and the neck cavity in the body has different numbers. MAY 24, 2018 (oddly enough, May 24 is my birthday ) and "Nick" is written in blue ballpoint pen.

I appreciate it. I've just been complacent.....I assumed that GC knew what they were selling. It's a really nice guitar and I'll end up selling it for way less than what it cost me. That's really no fun.

How does one tell a Wildwood from a non-Wildwood normally?

    Call Wildwood?

Do you have the CS certificate with the serial number?

They take pics of all the guitars they sell, try and do a visual comparison at least.

It depends on the guitar....it can be a special color or radius or a number of other things. It had various chips and what appeared to be the advertised "thin skin" this model was supposed to have so I didn't give it much thought.

No COA....but it's not a Custom Shop model. They did a Thin Skin '55. That's what this appeared to be.

At least if you bought it from GC you can get your money back if you want.

I just checked, I bought it last June....what are the chances?

And then they'd just put it back up on the wall even if they took it back. Screw the next guy..

Wildwood is pretty good about this type of thing. They don't want fakes of their special runs out there, so I'd email them some pictures. They'll know quickly if it's fake or not.

The neck is just wrong....the decal wouldn't be there, it would be between the nut and string tree. It's a great neck and it may even be a Fender neck. This just isn't a Wildwood '55.

Why not? If it's a fake and they missed it, it's their fault.

Especially if you still have the receipt. Might as well try.

It's still in my purchase history with them. It's the last thing I bought.

But they WILL just put it back up on the wall if they were to take it back. I bought a used Dr Z Route 66 from them a couple of years ago and it didn't sound right. Took it to my tech (who is also the local GC tech) and he said that the output transformer had been replaced with a much smaller unit.

I returned the amp and told them why.....when I went back to the store the next week it was just sitting there for sale.

Sure, but why should you take the hit? If they try to sell it as something it isn't that's on them. Just sayin'.
