Hey all, and especially Ampeg VT40/22/V2/4 owners:

I have a V2 head, the older one with the aluminum knobs. I want to get it serviced (e.g. re-capped and more).

I would like to send it to Pete Cage because I hear he is the best, but it would cost me a small fortune to send that heavy behemoth to Maryland from San Francisco (and back!).
Can you recommend someone on the west coast? Who are those guys?

I hear that Don Butler is one guy:
    Note:
His phone number is: (661) 259 4544 . Call ONLY between 10am-6pm Tuesday thru Saturday-Pacfic Time Zone. Please do not call on Sundays or after hours. His shop is in his home; respect his privacy during non-business hours. Shipping & Business address:
    Don Butler / Toneman

I had my old VT40 serviced by a guy in OC. He screen name is: Basshog and you can email him at basshog70@yahoo.com

Good guy, great work and fair pricing. He did a recap on my combo and swapped out the OG power cable for a 3-prong.

My amp tech here in Portland - Jim Taylor at Amphead - plays a V4 with his bands and knows them inside and out. Great guy too. PM me for contact info if you're interested.

But then V2s aren't complicated amps, are they? I'm thinking any good local tech should be able to take care of you without having to ship it somewhere...
