Have a new V18 which is dark and lifeless with its stock ten-cent speaker, need an uber-bright, loud driver to bring it out of the closet. These two are close in price and sound-type. Anyone have opinions of which might work better? Or a better choice that won't break the bank? I can get ahold of used G12-65s for about the same price.

I personally feel that the Screamin' Eagle is only good for Country & Western tele type music. It's got that bright twangy kind of sound. The V30 would be My choice.

I have a SE and its very dark next to the Jensen C12N reissue. If thats too bright, another fairly bright speaker is the Celestion Black Shadow that Mesa uses by the thousands.

If you want bright get a Eminence Wizard, it would be a good mate because it is articulate and efficient.

Thanks guys, food for thought! Guess nobody's tried the Retro 30 yet, supposed to be brighter and more articulate than the WGS V30.
