How do they differ from the regular cabs? I just visited the website. They look pretty much the same as the older ones. I see the website description emphasizes the dovetail joints but if so, what are the joints on the earlier ones?

they also are rear mounted and use t-bolts..instead of front mounted and screws straight into the baffle.

Well, for the record, I'm a fan of Avatar. Old or new.

I fully agree and understand that good cabs are worth their weight in gold but that said, I also think that MANY cabs are way over priced.

I've never really had an Avatar I didn't like and I've had two 4x12's and two H212s.

I think Dave's best cab by far is the open back H212 for sure and that is the one I'm keeping ;) I have Weber Cali 12's in it right now but that changes now and then too ;)

Reeek's not a little guy. I think he could carry that cab in one arm and his Twin Reveb in the other! ;)

I just ordered a 212 Premeire from Avatar today.

    The big differences are:

the front and back board are dadoed

    speakers are rear mounted

    joints are dove-tailed

comes with sweet white pipping :dude

add'l color choices include: Brown, Red, and Green, in addition to Black and Blonde

    customer service is still awesome!

The cool thing is that I was just thinking last week that I wish he'd add some red tolex and then I see this thread.

OK. Now I'm wishing that he'd ship them in nicely built, reasonably priced road cabs.... Ok let's check in next week and see if it worked.

I should've asked...for the record I ordered the brown w/the fender style grill.

Maybe if reachjkh thinks about purple they'll offer it next week. :D

I ordered the open back. I asked Dave about a "convertible" style back but they don't offer it. He did say he could sell me a closed back panel to try if I didn't like the open back or wanted something different from time to time, but I didn't order it. Don't quote me but I think it was around $40.

Ahhh! Thats a good idea. Get an extra back if they offer it! Generally I like the low end closded back offers but it depends on the cab/situation....

I bought my 212 from Dave with the open back panel and closed back panel because I was undecided too. To this day, I've never installed the closed back panel. The open back just kills IMHO. I have no intention of shutting out that big, thick, airy tone. There is no issue with brightness. Just more spatiality I think.

I play a wide range of styles. From blues to metal. I too love an open sound however when I switch gears to harder stuff my open back cabs just dont have the tight low end. Probably have to order both...
