This is going to be a little vague, but I'm seeking a tube head with the following characteristics:
  • 25-40W with good clean headroom
  • Thick like a tweed BM, but less gain, less growl
  • Warm full darker tone (not shimmering honkey scooped BF tones)
  • Sounds good into a smaller cab (like a 1x12 or 2x10 open back)
  • Reverb not mandatory
  • Available (don't want to chase something from a defunct builder. vintage is fine but I don't want to restore anything)
  • Takes pedals (fuzz, delay) well, but doesn't need them to sound good and have character
  • Priced somewhere in the teens or less would be nice
  • Small cab would be nice
Anything off the top of your head?

Have lil Dawg make u a brown super head or combo. Checks all those boxes, but it will growl if u turn it way up... normal channel rules, vibrato channel is only good when it has the vibrato on, when it's off that channel sounds bad.

That’s my ideal amp.
I’ve never played one but it sounds like Brownface amps fit this description.

What your describe for the sound makes me think of my Carr Rambler.
I know it also comes as a head... Not cheap though, but you get what you pay for !

Dr Z Maz can do those things. The 18 has the headroom of a larger amp, but you could always get the 38W
Having owned three Maz's….warm, dark, and thick are not the adjectives that come to mind if I were to describe those amps. Nice amps but I guess I heard different things.

Bandmaster Tweed clone? At least you've defined my Thomas Amplification clone combo with MV and 3x10 Alni's.
What's that Dr.Z clone model?
