We all know some amps are more pedal friendly than others.
Post your favorite pedal(s)/amp combination.

Blues pro -> THD Bivalve. I love this combo.

The bivalve takes pedals real well, the only one I have that didnt sound stellar was my keeley DS1. The DS1 sounds great as a boost on a high gain amp, like a tremoverb.

i've found my jcm800 2203 w/ KT88's to be quite pedal friendly despite the lack of an fx loop. it loves all manner of overdrive and fuzz, and if i roll back the volume on my guitar it really loves delays and my moon phaser.

This amp just loves pedals. But, coming from David Barber, I wouldn't expect anything less.

Dr. Z Mazerati combo. I think any Z amp loves pedals, though.
My AnalogMan TS9 sounds great thru it. I've got about 4 or 5 other overdrives/distortions and they all sound great with this amp.

This stuff.........

I have a Joyride going into the Savage and a prototype Vitamin G Boost going into the Tophat.
The rest of the pedals are in the loop. I have the Germainia slamming the Hotcake and that is incredible! I get two completely different types of tones [Voxy and Hiwatty] so ears do not get tired. For the most part tho, I use the 1/2 stack for cleans and the poor little Tophat gets tortured! M.E.

I'll go out on a limb and admit I don't have a boutique amp. My pedals sound pretty damn good through my Fender Hotrod Deluxe. Not bad for less than $600.:dude

Is your HR Deluxe stock? I've been trying to help my friend dial his in - just wondering what you're doing with tubes/speakers.
Thanks!

I hqve 3 separate pedalboards for 3 amps.

Jamison combo, Komet Constellation and a Victoria Double Deluxe.

Depending on the size of the venue and the music played, I grab an amp and the pedalboard that works with it. I've found certain effects are perfect fits for some amps, and not so much with others. Also, the Komet needs no overdrive pedal, so ther is not one on that board.

Effects I must have on a gig are: Wah, univibe, tremelo and analog delay.

Mine is stock. I have read a lot about changing tubes and the speaker, but I am happy with the tone at present. When the tubes blow, I'll change them. Same with the speaker. What are you thinking of using for the mod?

I put one of my spare Vintage 30s in and it sounds pretty good. We also put 12AT7s in V1 and V3. I'm thinking about trying some JJ power tubes - I think it's got Sovteks in now.
I used to have the same amp but it was always a bit boomy for me, so I sold it when I got my Z.

Depending on the gig:

OCD > Two Rock CR with Swamp Thang > AD99 in the loop

OCD > Mesa DC-5 with Swamp Thang > AD99 in the loop

Mudhoney > Mesa Subway Blues with occassional trem and delay in the loop (sit ins and rehearsals)

Mudhoney > Matchless JJ-30 (simple yet effective)

Hey Gary I think you'll find that your Tomcat head will take pedals well. The combo I just sold worked well with every Keeley pedal I've owned, especially the Comp and Katana. I also loved it with many of the Pedalworx pedals. The only pedal type that I didn't like with the Tomcat was tremelo pedals. For some reason, they always sounded weak.

I use to own a Mesa DC-3 and a Mesa Maverick. They both took pedals well. In fact, I haven't played an EL84 amp that didn't like pedals. Maybe they're out there, but I haven't found one yet.
