With that much distortion and delay, it could be just about any amp.

Well, while it may not be suitable for tired blooze:eek:, it works well in the format/genre of music that he seems to work in. Go check out his site, he has some pretty cool instruments and you get an idea of the kind of work he does.

    Hi guys,

a UK member and first-timer here.

I recently sent Allen a question about his amps and the good man responded straight away.

"He uses early 70's Fender Deluxe Reverbs (these would be Silverfaces I'd imagine) and has them VCR modded to be more like 60 watters, circuit-wise. He also instals a Fane 100 watt speaker (big blue magnet) but no idea which model that is."

Not sure what VCR modded entails or fully means but probably some sort of voltage alteration. If anyone can clear this point up it would be good. I also hear that substituting 6V6 tubes for 6L6's can also increase headroom but not sure if that's happened here.

Hope that helps remove the mystery and straight from the horse's mouth.

Looks like it could be a Samamp Series 1 head.

I've also read he swapped the 6v6's for 6l6's, that'd increase the wattage to around 40 or so, with a bigger OT. I'd bet with that efficient speaker, he could get a fair amount more clean headroom out of the amp, though I did read where he said the deluxes weren't quite loud enough for some gigs, he's been using bogner barcelona amps lately, with bert cabs I believe. Anything the man plays sounds great though, I think he says he prefers amps around 30 to 40 watts with a touch of tube compression happening, he told me in an email he does not like the big super clean amps like twins, says they make pedals sound a little plastic, and I completely agree.
