It always provoked a strong associated memory with special treats.

YES. This for me. "Alchemy" is about one of my favourite live albums ever, and got plenty of rotations when I was growing up. Other than this, "Down To The Waterline" was one of the first DS songs I heard and it remains a hard favourite. Outside of DS, of you are talking Knopfler songs, the instrumental theme song to "Local Hero" is one song that always brings me to tears when I hear it.

I like the ' trance' or pulse in the rhythm of " So Far Away (from me)"
I just sing and play it solo on acoustic, and it is an understated/simple melody but powerful with beautiful lyrics.

Not being a jerk, but Sultans drew me into them. Hearing his guitar techniques and tricks:
    - raking
    - short meaningful runs that were unique every line-end
    - using multiple chord shapes for economy of motion and movement to build a feel
    - then a blazing solo going from simple and beautiful to complex and rocking

    All those things are great!
