I've always been a hardware guy when it comes to synths but I've just bought the Streetly Mellotron app for Ipad and I'm pretty blown away by it - 12 quid and a little Korg usb midi keyboard and I've got a portable mellotron! I was thinking about a £800 Mellotron Micro as well...

The new Wave table synth in Ableton Live 10 looks really intriguing -- especially all the automation you could do with it and the matrix table.

Starting to learn more about my U-he Zebra 2. Crazy powerful and I plan to invest more time in learning it than some of the others I have (I have NI Komplete some Arturia stuff).

Edit: Since it was asked in the OP, the ones in NI that I've messed around with a bit are Kontour and Prism or Spark (I can't remember). They're all really cool, though! And Massive is... well... massive :phones

And it sounds an aweful lot like a real Prophet 5. I have Bazille by UHe, sounds really great too, but a little CPU heavy.

My favorite software synths are Madrona Labs Aalto, NI Reaktor, and Camel Labs Alchemy (now an instrument that comes in LogicX).

    This^^... And Diva too ;)

But i'm sure there are a lot more vst's out there equally suited for EDM stuff, but that's not really my thing so i can't advise much further than that
