Miles Davis, Kind of Blue
Charles Mingus, Ah Um
Buddy Rich, The Best of Buddy Rich
I agree with Kind of Blue, but at this point I *almost* don't need the record to listen to it! I can pretty much almost "play it in my head".
I'm sure I'd need some Joe Pass....but how could I possibly pick just one record.
I'll need a B3 record, but who? Shirley Scott? Jack McDuff? Charles Earland? Lonnie Smith? Jimmy Smith? Jimmy McGriff?
Bird....Diz....Monk....They need to come along for the trip. Oscar Peterson, too. Can Art Tatum come?
Ella or Sassy? Don't force me to pick!
I think I need to opt out of this thread.
Allan Holdsworth - The Sixteen Men of Rain
Wayne Krantz - Long to be Loose
Jonas Hellborg - Ars Moriende
If there's room:
John McLaughlin - My Goals Beyond
this is basically impossible to do, but:
miles davis- miles smiles
jim hall- live
mccoy tyner- the real mccoy
oh....I forgot about McCoy Tyner. Add him to my post, above. And while you're at it, add some Ahmad Jamal.
I can't do this. Sorry.
As of today:
Andrew Hill - Point of Departure
Ahmad Jamal - The Awakening
Paul Bley - Open, To Love
Kind Of Blue
Solo Guitar (Ted Greene)
A Love Supreme
Birth of The Cool
1) Kenny G
2) Kenny G Live
3) Kenny G, The Greatest Holiday Classics
I figure that after a few months on a desert island I’m going to want to smash something.
Jimmy Giuffre 3-7 Pieces (CD includes 4 tunes from Rome show in '59)
Anything by Esperanza Spaulding!
I am smitten...
Burell Midnight Blue
Bill Evans/Jim Hall Undercurrents.
cant think of 3 right now.. probably a lester young compilation
Kind of Blue - Miles
Time Out - Dave Brubeck Quartet
Friends Seen And Unseen - Charlie Hunter Trio
Miles Davis, Kind of Blue
Duke Ellington, Ellington at Newport
Jimmy Smith, Six Views of the Blues
For me it would be:
Kind of Blue - Miles Davis (obviously)
The Guitar Artistry of Hank Garland - Hank Garland (A forgotten masterpiece!)
Johnny Smith (the verve one with the Gibson Johnny Smith on the cover) - Johnny Smith
Howard Roberts --- H.R. Is a Dirty Guitar Player
Herbie Hancock --- Man Child
John Scofield --- Scofield A Go Go
After typing that up, I realize Man Child should be first. But I get to bring all three...right. ;^)
My worst fear....being stuck on a deserted island with nothing but three jazz albums to listen to.
John Coltrane- Giant Steps
Wayne Shorter-Speak No Evil
Pat Metheny Group-1st album

Kinda Blue - Miles Davis Quintet
My Favorite Things - John Coltrane Quartet
And His Mother Called Him Bill - Duke Ellington Orchestra
