Man is this a good time to love el84 amps!! After several years of shuffling around I have finally solidified my top 3!!

    1) Kingsely Deluxe 30T - the most versatile of any el84 I have owned. More clean headroom on input 2 than most others and the ability to emulate many different amp styles due to the pentode/triode, eq defeat, bright switch, half power switch. Input 1 has some of the nicest distortion tones going and the verb and trem are very nice, though not as well realised to my tastes as the tremcat's trem and verb. Magical through a pair of celestion blues. If there is a tone I need live or in the studio, odds are I can find it in this amp. And the cleans are amongst the most addictive I have heard. One of those "I can't put my guitar down yet" amps. Somehow this amp goes from emulating Vox in the cleans, Marshall 18 watters in the dirties and tweeds in the triode mode. From thick to thin to in between, I love the Kingsley. The tone controls are mid, bass, treble, and an overall global voicing tone control that together with the bright switch provide limitless possibilities.

    2) Bad Cat Trem Cat - with the ability to combine various combinations of preamp tubes (ef86 and 12ax7) and the ability to use the different sensitivities of the 2 inputs, you get so many varied Vox inspired tones (with a touch of fender bass solidity mixed in) that it leaves you smiling. How do they get those ceramic speakers to sound like alnicos? Incidentally, this amp actually sounds worse to my ears through celestion blues. Plus the trem and verb are to die for with the trem having a huge range of speeds and depths. The downside is the traditional mark sampson bass flub at extreme gain levels - levels a mere mortal would not even require in a stadium. But from clean to midgain it produces pure tonal bliss. Other downsides - master volume kills some of the magic, and the weight may cause hernias for some.

    3) Vox AC30CC - an amazing surprise for such a cheap amp. The tone hangs in there with the above amps but surprise, is the most Voxy sounding, able to cop the HW tone but just as at home copping the classic JMI AC30 tone. Some of the sweetest ac30 tones I have ever heard come from this beast through a set of old silverdogs. Plus the normal channel with the brilliance switch engaged sounds like an awesome non top boost treble ac30 and when you crank the volume in this mode the distortion is so tight that I'd be hard pressed to get a better mid/highish gain tone. This tone alone justifies the purchase. Plus you can get that Tom Petty Rhyt. sound on the top boost channel. Quite an amp. The downside - the trem is limited in range and depth and the reverb sounds more like a pedal than a traditional spring verb. Also, at less than 12 O'clock the master can kill some of the jangle factor - what else is new? Other than that - a perfect Vox.

    And now for the porn:

    My top 3:

    Bogner Metropolis

Stephenson Reverb (Like LJ-10 it has a 6V6 opposite the EL84)

Uh, something else I suppose for third place.

I have quite a few, but I would think the top three would rank

    Matchless SC-30

    Bruno UG30

    Budda Twinmpaster plus

Several others would be very close behind. Gotta love that little "Buzz Pencil" ;)

FlackBase, I also have a Twinmaster Plus. Mine is the 30 watt head. Serial # 005.
I haven't ever seen any of the others. What serial # do you have? I was told there were less than 50 made. Do you know if this is true? Do you know the whereabouts of any other Pluses?
How does the 410 sound? I have a twinmaster 210 combo, that is a killer. But I LOVE the Plus with a 212 cab. :D
I am not great at describing the tone of the plus. How would you describe yours?

I'd add the 65 Amps London to the list.

Swain: Mine is #3. It's a talker. Much more than twice as loud as the Twinmaster 2x10, and a tighter more focused sound with a strong thump under each note. Kind of like a marriage between Super Reverb and a Plexi. I love it.

TopHat Club Royale and Soldano Astroverb are the only two I have at the moment. So I guess those are my favorites. :D

FlackBase, Yeah there is DEFINATELY a thump! I can only say richer, and more harmonically complex.

(BTW, both those photos show the same 1965A (slant-front 4x10) cabinet :D

My third favorite, which I don't have a photo of, and I no longer own, was my Peavey Classic 50 2x12 combo. GREAT amp.
