Specifically, comparing the newer/older '80s MIJ models and the newer MIK models. I know nothing about them other than some of them look KILLER and I've heard they are very high quality.

How does an $800 MIJ Tokai compare to a new $2,000 Gibson LP Standard?

Hey! Man, I'm about to enter a "lack-of-les-paul" induced coma. Selling that goldtop and then my custom was dumb! LOL!!!

There are a few real nice looking '80s Tokai's on eBay right now, but I have no idea if this price is too high or what... Any opinions?

the middle one, the ' 84 Cherryburst LS-50 is the better deal/quality.
id go for that one, the QC/choice of wood is comparable to vintage LP's,
not the new LP Stds. just buyer beware Tokai fakes on ebay,
alot of jerkoffs just put a Tokai/Gibson headstock decal on a el-cheapo knock-off

Thanks for the info, bro. I'm not saying I'm going to pull the trigger on a Tokai, but I'm certainly considering it. I sold one of my G&L's and am in the process of selling the other to buy a LP. My thoughts were that I'd find a used LP Classic for $1,000 - 1,100 or so, since I've never owned a Classic.

Do you know anything about these new Edwards LP copies? I hear they're made in Japan either by ESP or in that same plant. Something like that. They look nice too.

early '80's ones seem to be the most desired, I have an '81 LS60 & it's a great gtr...solid maple top, 2 piece mahagony body, 1 piece neck

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! So, can you please tell me how the Tokai or Edwards LP copies compare to the real US Gibson versions? My guess is that they are at least equal in quality, but I don't know that.

Wow, what a collection indeed Lestercollector! I've been very curious about those Japanese LP "copies" (hard to call them a "copy" when some are more accurate than some "real" LP's :D) and have been GAS'ing for a LP for some time now. They def seem like a great bargain if the quality really is as good as has been reported. That Edwards "Page" relic/replica is quite tasty to say the least.

That "Page" model is KILLING me too. I'm tempted to dump the idea of a new Gibby and go with an Edwards (most likely) or Tokai. Urgh... lol

That "Page" model has what appears to be a killer switching system. Very versatile. I'm also a sucker for relic jobs. Hmmmm...

I don't see any P-90s in that bunch. You still have some work to do.

Thanks Joe! That's good to hear that you think the Edwards are high quality. Man, I'm seriously tempted to go for the gold and get that Jimmy Page relic'ed model. Those pickups combinations along with the relicing really get me excited. lol...

I sold one of my G&L Legacys on eBay yesterday and my other one is up there now. I have around $1,000 and will have roughly $1,500 after the other Legacy sells. I was considering a used LP Classic in the $1,100 range, but that Page Edwards is the same price and has a much cooler vibe.

I too love Gibsons and have owned a few. But to be honest, I too think they cost way too much. I mean, they're killer guitars, but I don't know if they're $2-3,000 killer, ya know?

I wish I could find a used Edwards, as I mainly buy stuff used in case I want to resale it and not lose my ass. But I'm seriously tempted by either that Page model or the following Edwards:

I played one of those Page relic'ed jobs in Tokyo last April... I didn't plug it in, but it was pretty cool, I think it's worth the asking price for sure. They play well, good quality guitars and they are a great conversation piece for sure. I love guitar shopping in Tokyo! Crazy the stuff you see there, it's fun... like "Seymour Duncan" brand strats and teles, what's up with those? Really cool.

What the heck. I just did it. I've been a little hesitant about paying this price for a MIJ guitar, but we'll see how it turns out. I have high hopes. :)

I absolutely love relic'ed guitars and have been looking for a new LP for a short while now. The price I paid is a little above the price from Ishibashi (or whatever they're called), but they won't have any in stock for a month and I'm... well... always in a hurry for gear. lol
