I've never heard of any of those bands....
Other cities have had bigger bands, but few cities have had as many influential bands/solo artists as Minneapolis- Bob Dylan, The Replacements, Husker Du, The Jayhawks and Prince.
City, or greater area ?? As if you don't know lol
Tower of Power
Sons of Chaplin
Janis Joplin Big Brother
Quicksilver Messanger Service
John Lee Hooker
Country Joe & the Fish
Third Eye Blind
Hoodoo Rhythm Devils
Graham Central Station
Charles Ford Band w/ Robben Ford
Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks
It's a Beautiful Day
New Riders if the Purple Sage
Sly and the Family Stone
and many, many more,,,
Two obvious odd one's out in that list
And they aren't bands
Neither is Robert Cray (Georgia) or Joan Baez (NY)
Carlos Santana was born in Mexico
Never heard of them.
...I kid, I kid.
Seattle is no slouch either: The Ventures, The Sonics, Heart, Queensryche, Hendrix, Ray Charles, Quincy Jones, Bing Crosby, and of course the '90s bands: Soundgarden, Alice, PJ, Nirvana, Mother Love Bone, Duff McKagan is from Seattle, so could throw a good chunk of GnR in there.
Are you saying Neil Young from Ontario, Robert Cray from Georgia, Van Morrison from Florida, and Santana from Mexico didn't front bands in S.F. and call the bay area home. This thread has nothing to do with where they were born. Santana has lived in San Francisco since the early 60s, he's even a US citizen. Now, Jerry Garcia was born in S.F.
Joan Baez was a slip up, but she has called the bay area home.
Hey, I'm claiming Bing Crosby for the bay area. He lived many years in Hillsburough on the bay area peninsula. So ba ba ba boom.
Not mentioned from NYC
Blood. Sweat & Tears
The Lovin Spoonful
The Blues Project
And from the greater NYC area,
Leaving out about 100 bands here's a list of more well-known bands formed in London:
The Rolling Stones
The Sex Pistols
Public Imaged Limited
The Alan Parson Project
(Left out The Jimi Hendrix Experience, who were formed in London in 1966)
Perhaps we need to define the word "band".....
Kings Of Leon
And they'd only sing this:
And yet all Cuzzy Bros are Kiwi's !!
You mean you detest the beautiful Birdland tones howling out of a stack of super twins that can blow the sack off a charging rhino at fifty paces? I don’t get it!!!
