If there are two guitarists in an Indie rock band and one guitar player has an AC30 EL84 type amp, what would be a good amp choice for the second guitar player? I've read time and time again that a second guitar player should be in a different sonic zone. So what's a good amp pairing...EL84 & EL34, EL84 & 6v6, EL84 & 6L6?

mesa boogie triple rectifiers sound nice in contrast to a vox ac30. I believe that's 6l6 tubes but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I see a lot of Orange ad-30's along side ac30's. Or something in marshall territory. The Orange has a totally different sound despite being an el-84 amp.

Doesn't the answer depend in part on guitar/pickup types?

A good Marshall JMP 50 watt head ( 77 or 78 ), Hiwatt DR504 head, Matchless or Alessandro amps would be excellent choices for you to look into. Happy amp hunting !!

A tweed deluxe or bassman. Think Tom Petty.

I agree something with good lower mids. I would think KT66 loaded stuff would sound great (Rt66, jtm45). Ever so often I run my Rt66 and Hayseed in stereo. I think they tonally fill each other out very well.

I agree with the KT66 suggestion. I'd recommend a Mesa/Boogie loaded with KT66's (which, of course, I recommend to everyone).

Then again, you could always get another AC30!

For four years my brother and I played in a blues/RnB band.
He used his Tele, with a Twin Reverb, and Me with a Gibson Les Paul
and a TV Special with my '66 Vox AC30 TB.

Any choice where your not competing too much for the frequencies has always worked for me, YMMV.

What compliments an AC30? People who like them!

"My, you're a wonderful sounding amplifier, you rascal you..." ;)

Oh... you mean complement. ;) Like a couple of others have suggested: some kind of 6V6 or 6L6 based Fender-like amp.
