I've just been gettingback into playing and haven't owned a delay since my bass player stole my DD-3 over 10 years ago!

I'm looking for small footprint and in the $100 - $150 range. I'm just noodling at home right now with a DRRI and Strat so something warm but still defined. I remember the DD-3 being somewhat clinical, so I'd like something more "trippy", but I don't know if that's possible with my budget.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Rick

Warm, trippy, budget..... Sounds like an Ibanez DE-7. Well under your budget and warm and fuzzy. Much warmer than a Boss DD-*.

Line 6 Echo Park - i've been a firm believer in analog analog analog, BUT this little pedal is pretty kick ass for what it is and the price point that it's going for. Has some cool features, plus a switch for tapelike, analog and digital that incorporates some cool tonal qualities to the repeats attempting to emulate how they should sound.

I'd actually part with mine if you're interested, either way just thought i'd throw my 2 cents in.

Yep, that sounds like a good place to start.

Alternatively, you could get an old Boss DD-2 on ebay or the emporium for maybe 120 bucks. It's not trippy (although it can do sitar sounds, but that's a different story), but imho it's the best compromise solution for warm AND clear delays.

My vote is a Boss DM-2 or DM-3

These are all digital units with at least some respectable analog voicing within... My hit list for a similar quest:

Electro Harmonix #1 Echo $99 (a real value pick)
Goudie FX – Delay www.goudiefx.com $165 CAD. Simple but solid. The samples will sell you. This unit has been well received here.
Thundertweak Delay - $160 very analog-voiced and very simple available through www.tonefactor.com
CMATMODS Deeelay $150 and now sports 600ms of max delay time.
Pharoah Amps Echo Jr. $169 direct. $129 for brushed aluminum version.
Ibanez DE7 $69 (another value pick)
Guyatone MD-3 Micro Delay $111.95 at zzounds or www.bestguitarbuys.com
    Marshall EH-1 Echohead $119

Some of these are over your budget but can often be had for less in the emporium here.

I'm trying to get rid of an Analogman ar20dl Delay (much like the DM-2/3) for $125 shipped to the lower 48.

You could also pick up a used DLS Echotap in that price range.

i think the analogman or keeley ad9 would be a good route in that price range.

I would suggest the Digitech Digidelay $99 new. Lots of features and small footprint. The Ibanez DE7 isn't bad either and much cheaper.

+1 on Echo Park. It's mighty versatile and a great introduction into delay world. Sounds VERY good too.

DD-20 would be another great choice if you need presets.
