What device to send guitar into PA?

I'm looking for an inexpensive amp alternative that will let me route my guitar signal like so:

guitar > pedalboard > [something] > PA amp

I seem to recall some chatter about a "red box" or something that will simulate a clean amp for the guitar in and convert to line-out for the PA. Anyone know what that was or something similar?

This would be an alternative to hauling my amp to and from rehearsal every week.

Thanks!

RedBox works fine. It's basically just a hi to lo z direct box with filtering on the output to roll off the highs and quasi-simulate a guitar speaker's frequency response.

I've got just the thing for you: Tech 21 Character pedals, I have the Liverpool & the Blonde pedals and I run my PRS into a Rat pedal then the Blonde pedal then MXR Carbon Copy then to PA board. These pedals are absolutely the best and you will swear your playing a regular amp. My band played a gig at a very small but exclusive club so the stage was incredibly small so I got these pedals and went straight to the board and had a great sound and the gig could not have gone better. Try these pedals you will like them. (tech21nyc.com)

I use a Behringer GI-100 direct box with cabinet simulator. It does an admirable job. It only cost me 35 bucks and I can also use it as a straight direct box with the cab sim switched off.

The Damage Control Womanizer with direct out is very nice. I noticed that Retroman has a Dumbox (sic?) with direct out, too, but I think it's solidstate whereas the Womanizer is tube-based (if that matters).
