why did you revert to a 2203 from that killer plexi tone you absolutely nailed Mark ?

If you wanted a master you could have simply done the Rich Mod and got it this way .

Was the plexi tone lacking something you wanted in a more JCM800 sound ?

i love that plexi tone. and am in the middle of a few amps. this 2203 spec im running has some things that plexi doesnt. and visa versa - dont get me wrong im not changing one for the other i just like different things about each. first of all the 2203 has 3 stages of gain where is the plexi has two per channel so right there is a different tone.my plexi did have post phase inverter master - i wanted to experiment with pre phase inverter. and cascaded gain stages. this spec im running now is the funnest spec to play this far. its alot woodier where as the plexi was just real good plexi tone. this is more of the hotrod marshall sound starting from marshalls first hotrod, the 2203. its all in learning about the amp for me, i want to hear it all ya know? i do think my 2203 spec gets closer than my plexi spec to eddie. what did you think?

Assuming everything in your recording chain is the same, the 2203 clip is much thicker and chewier than the plexi clip. I don't think that makes it better or worse, but my preference would be the 2203. Of course, all of my builds are Dumble style so I guess I have a prejudice there.

BTW, thanks again for posting your build details and clips. I have one more d-clone to finish up and then it's time to build a plexi for my son. :)

you guys dont get it - i havent traded anything in - i still have my plexi spec its a new amp layout or its going to be, my build has gone through lotsof spec changes, have taken notes os nothing is lost. - what i dont get is how you cant hear that 2203modsu.mp3 sounds way better for vh than any of the plexi stuff - oh well - differnet ears i guess.

Man rockstah you have got the EVH tone nailed. Nice work. A kit amp huh.? If I wern't so afraid of electrocution I might be tempted to build one.

    Great sounds, and nice playing.
