Okay, this is just to stir things up a little bit. But picture: You accidentally left ALL your effects at the club you played last night and they burned down today. You've got a reasonable (REASONABLE!) amount of money available and want to quickly put your pedalboard back together.

    So what goes on first?

This isn't just 'What's your favorite distortion/overdrive?'. It's "What is the most necessary effect to make YOUR sound?"

So sure, it includes 'What's your favorite distortion?' if you would start your emergency pedalboard recreation by buying a TS 808 and nothing else. But what about other goodies? Do you have to have a Delay? How about a Chorus? Wah?

    Now which ones?

And are there any that you would buy because they are easy to find, but you would already be trying to find the hard-to-get version you prefer?

There. That ought to get things moving. :munch

my Devi Ever Shoe Gazer. Of all my numerous pedals which I love dearly, this is the one that I would feel absolutely lost without. Its got a distinct fuzz flavor that has helped define my musical direction in the past couple of years and although I've got many other wonderful toys, this is still at the heart of it, in sound and in spirit.

Assumption: The amp provides both clean and distortion tones.

I could survive with a dry sound and maybe just a stage tuner, but even for bare minimum I like a little delay available to add depth here and there and a wah.

Not quite necessary but really helpful: a swirly analog chorus set like a fast leslie

(EDIT to show which actual pedals I'd walk out of GC or The House of Guitars with, which are more or less what I already have. Boss DD-7 delay, Korg DT-10 tuner, Budda Bud Wah. If I had money left, Voodoo Labs Analog Chorus).

Assuming I am keeping my current amp:

    MDEQ
    BiComp
    Tone Factor Nebula
    Java Boost
    FETTO
    Top Fuel
    Mayo
    T-Rex Replica

A little excessive, but I do like to use them all.

This would be my core replacement:

    EP-PRE
    OCD
    Deep Blue Delay
    Barber Bar-BQ

    The rest would be Lagniappe!

Million dollars, small unmarked bills. ;)

Oh, your talking effects... fuzzface... nice and papery dry, like the finest dryest martini ever made... think "the desert after a 3 year drought"... barren, dry as dust... no liquid for miles and miles.... utterly and completely dry.

My Hot Cake. It loves all my guitars and works great as an EQ, clean boost, light dirt, and I love it's heavy distortion tone with my Jazzmaster.

I'm ashamed to admit that I can't get by at a gig with zero pedals because of the variety of tones that I use and my love of simple amps, but I could get by with just a Hot Cake.

Jazzmaster or SG into a Hot Cake is really the essence of my sound.

from what my current setup is? i'd need my tuner and my DD-5 fo sho!!! then my wah. i already use my amp's distortion (and my FD2M should be here in a couple of days..).. so to answer the question, i can get through a show with my strat, hrdx, tuner, and a delay pedal. no prob.

    fuzz or treble booster
something that does a reasonable echoplex imitation

I have played all night using just these two pedals. The problem is from night to night it isn't the same two pedals. When I get that worked out, I will have a very small pedal board.

    That'll be the wah...

Next is a Si fuzz and a tuner really...

KR Killer wah , RM Axis Fuzz and i really dont care about the tuner as long as it dont suck tone...

I could find the Axis Fuzz easily...i'd probably buy an Area51 or a Pic wah cause KR is hard to find anyway...

oh man, i hope i never leave a pedal board behind in a soon to be burnt buiulding but...

    I'd first replace:

    Fulltone '69
    &
    Deluxe Memory Man
    and finally
A decent tuner (no too picky about these)

It is funny, given the scenario, that people are listing pedals available by mail-order with two-month wait times.

I would probably try to pick up a Fulltone Boost and a Boss RE-20

I think the idea is to have them by the next "gig."

It'd have to be the three "front row, right side" pedals on my board...the ones that occupy those spaces are the ones I use the most...but to put them in order? Hmmm, based on versatility, I'd have to go in this order:

    1. OCD
    2. Sunface NKT
    3. Burst Eternity
