What guitar is amazing in the hands of others...doesn't work for you?

I enjoy the playing of many users of Gretsch guitars. They sound great. They look good. However, every time I have tried to use one I get the most disappointing results.

What is it for you?

strats. However, I might make Danocaster whip one up for me which will probably change that.

Not a guitar, but Marshall amps. They always sound great with other people playing them but I've never had a great Marshall experience.

I'll take "Les Pauls" for $1000 please, Alex. I've played literally hundreds of them over the past 25 years. Can't find a single one that I'd even remotely consider buying. Can't get along with the shape or the neck angle.

The sound that first inspired me was a Les Paul through a cranked Marshall.
Early Clapton, Peter Green, Jeff Beck etc.

Sadly I've never been comfortable with an LP. The bridge, the weight, the body/neck angle, the lack of upper fret access, all interfere with my enjoying and playing freely.

This is more or less where I'm coming from. Something about the shape doesn't work for me

Strats. Hate the lack of neck angle, the loosey goosey neck joint and the strings sit too close to the body.

Any Gibson that I've played, I prefer my £100 Squire. I just don't like how they feel! Same for Gretsch, but I have only played one, the neck was too fat for my liking. I've always played strats, but I love the feel of teles so I reckon that one might be in order soon.
