OMG..I saw this in another thread..I think I just got something very similar to this guitar, I noticed the see thru pickgaurd and binding. I just got this cool old MIJ Fiesta guitar. I'm sure there are not too many with the brown binding and see thru pickgaurd.
Anyone know what he is playing?

All of his early albums from "For You" to "Prince", "Dirty Mind", "Controversy",
"1999" and "Purple Rain" where mostly recorded with the Telecaster

I saw Prince in '84 on the Purple Rain tour and his playing was off the charts... really mind blowing... there were several tunes that stretched into prolonged jams, not something you would expect with a "pop star". Little Red Corvette and Purple Rain were especially cool... I think Purple Rain went on for like 20 minutes, at least half of which was him wailing...

I used to have one of those Hohner teles. Really a great guitar. Wish I would have kept it.

I seen him before he got popular, I think he opened for a band that was touring as STeppenwolf ( John Kay and some other guys).
It was in an old theater. The MC came out and introduced this guy that was going to be the newest sensation named Prince.
This little dude came out, i think he was in blue jeans and a long sleeve shirt. No flashy clothes or makeup or strange do. Simple band, him bass and drums if I remember right.

He came out and played **** out of a guitar, blew me away. I didn't care much for the music he was doing and assumed he was just another Hendrix clone ( he kind of had that style and stage presence).
I was quite surprised when he started releasing hit songs and the music was keyboard pop.

Prince in concert is a real treat. He is right up there with Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Bruce Springsteen. Great entertainer and great on guitar.

Prince band drummers and bassists are always phenomenal as well.

I've never been totally into his music, but there's no doubt he's an amazing player. As for the Hohner Tele, they are still out there. I believe they even reissued them recently. Supposed to be pretty good. From what I read he now uses Kinmann pickups and uses a permanent marker to black out the covers.

So, so under rated. A lot of people think he's just a pop singer.

The thing about Prince is, he's incredible on a number of different instruments, not just guitar.
Amazing singer and dancer as well. In my mind, far more talented than Michael Jackson was.
