I went out with my wife and sister in law after 11 years of not being in a club. We went to a club that is close to our home. It was supposed to be a very popular band that has a nice following. So I went to check it out. The set list they used was the same set list I was using 15 years ago, I could have played their show. What happened?!?! They did not have one current song from the last decade, and they were not billed as classic and the people there said they were playing the typical set. What happened?

    It's laziness.

Thems are the songs they know.

I remember being on the road with an active set list of well over 100 songs. We were constantly adding at least 3 a week, we in that band had a very strong work ethic. On the the other hand, I was in a band for a short time that added 3 songs every 3 months or so. Did not stay in that band long. In cover bands always tried to keep it fresh, if you saw our show last night, it will be fresh the next night. So I was very confused about this show.

MTV Europe had this in heavy rotation along with Genie in a Bottle and Baby One More Time when I went to Europe for the first time in 1999…It’s hard to believe that was almost ten years ago. Hearing this stuff really takes me back.

99% of the cover bands in Ottawa play the same set list. All the usual, boring bar crap is abundent around here, which is a reason I gave up trying to find a decent band around here. I swear to God, you go in and the band will be playing "Brown-Eyed Girl", "Sweet Home Alabama", "Mustang Sally", and the next weekend a different will be playing exactly the same tunes.

i tended bar here in my hometown for about 3 years. we had live entertainment every night of the week. each act had their own 'voice', but more often than not, much of their respective sets were the same. i would say at least 65%. one guy in particular comes to mind: he is a great guitarist/singer/songwriter, but he would always play the same set, week after week, in the same order. i got the impression that he was bitter about playing covers instead of being successful with his own (quality) material. but, the bottom line is, the people came to our bar to hear brown eyed girl. not his music.

and i have to sympathize with the guy, its a real shame.

    THE LIST !!!!!

Everyone says live music is dying, and every time THE LIST gets played, it's another nail in the coffin.

    It's because New Songs suck.

    We play nothing past 1980.
