What happens to the "it" pedals of yesteryear?

For example, the MI Audio Crunchbox? Or the original big blue StroboStomp? Many must have been sold, but you never see them anymore, or rarely. Do folks hold onto them, and shelf them? Sell them? Blow them up with firecrackers? Just kinda curious. I've got some shelved. A couple of old Barbers, many tuners, mod pedals (an early 80's Boss Flanger, my first pedal!), other Boss pedals, various wahs, etc.

I don’t think I’ve seen more than a handful of Mad Professor pedals actually on people’s boards (or even in the “show your pedalboard 2019” type threads) in the past 2 years.

    Where did they all go?
Back in the early 20-teens they were everywhere. The market got saturated and they kind of faded away.

(Yes I know some people on here still use them and love them.. but in comparison to ~2013 MP pedals seem to be old news)

    Yeah, they destroy them. :facepalm

If you don’t see them for sale then folks are using them or storing them.

    Why are you overthinking it?

I assume folks hold onto them. When Klones were all the rage, I went through a bunch, settled on the VFE Merman and never looked back. If I get a new amp, maybe I'd want something that reacts differently but sometimes you finally hit that sweet spot and your GAS goes dormant.

V1 Crunchbox gets used as required to give an amp wonderful distortion. I don't sell anything for the most part just always had issues with the idiots in the used gear market.

I've wondered if the Chinese clones hit MP particularly hard. I recall the sweet honey overdrive clones hitting eBay when the pedal was still pretty popular.

Classic pedals never die. They just fade away.

I'm still using the Fulltone Fulldrive MOSFET. I've tried but I can't find anything that does the same thing in the same way.

I don't think I've seen anybody else using a Rockbox Boiling Point in the last 5 years - but I still think my old handwired one is one of the best pedals for soaring leads (at 18v, of course ;))

It should also be mentioned that TGP is not representative of the entire guitar world.

Those pedals were so dang good they ended people’s “pedal search” and those people are now so satisfied and content they have no desire to flip pedals, or spend time on forums, or post Instagram pics, they are out there experiencing pure sonic bliss.....that’s the only explanation I can think of

    They are still around.

Guys like me snatch up the cream of the old crop for next to nothing on the used market.

I got my bogners red and blue last year. What was that, like 6 years behind the curve or something?

I liked them years ago when I heard them. I got 'em for less than 300 bucks combined in mint condition with the boxes.

The hype train is great for us tightwads. We get to buy at half price if we wait a bit.

My Box of Rock is permanently seated on my board and getting all the TLC it deserves as the focal point of my drive section

But yeah I would think people are either using or storing them for the most part...
