I really think TGP has taught me a lesson over this last year.. and that is.. get yourself a decent guitar and decent amp and just play.. I really have no need to chase tones of anyone else and my so called tone is good enough for what I do in the band I play in.... the thought of chasing tone and trying new amps and guitars.. kinda make me sick now.. ......lol.......there I feel better now... Merry Christmas...

this announcements is not a put down for those chasing tones .. just a self-revelation and I'm bored at work today..... fyi...

what has TGP taught you this year?

I think I learned your lesson a few years ago so, this year......not so much about gear, more about the character of the members, some good, some great, some bad.

That most of the advice that people ask for is not so productive and they end up asking questions like "what's the best amp for me" and 400 people give 400 totally different answers... real useful...

I've also learned that too many of us have no real sense of humor about ourselves and take stuff way too personal.

I resolve, in the new year, to spend way more time playing and way less time here.

Sorry if that offends you... no wait... maybe I'm not...

I have learned that the quality of the postings and information has degenerated over the past year. Too many bashing threads, and too many silly questions.

...the best way to get a responce is to ask for pictures of peoples expensive guitars and amps. Many will step up for that! Inexpensive gear draws very little interest.

That way too many players think that their opinion is not only genius but their preference of music is the standard. I believe they have an outstanding fashion sense though....

That too many people don't use the search function to their best advantage.

I've learned that the names of certain amps, guitars, and basses are actually very naughty words. I'm trying to refrain from saying them in public, but it's hard.

In the previous couple of years TGP helped me through my midlife tone crisis.

If you buy a Dumble, you must start as many threads as possible, and play the same intro to a song over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and.......

Plus one to this part especially - "I resolve, in the new year, to spend way more time playing and way less time here." make that "learning to play" instead of "playing"

And maybe some lessons if the $ become available.

    1. the only decent conversation goes on in the manufacturers forum. the other forums are mostly arguments about hearsay and conjecture that have nothing to do with anything.

    2. there are great deals to be found in the emporium.

I got some great advice on fixing a few things on different amps.

I learned that there are still a lot of unusual and inexpensive amps that interest me.

I learned how to rewire an ES-345 from stereo to mono w/o damaging the guitar or any parts.
