A few clubs that I have dealt with lately keep mentioning their "talent buyer" - have ya'll heard this term before?

I thought that was a term for people who listen to Kanye West and say excitedly..."Wow.... now that guy is talented!":banana

    They generally buy anything...

Yeah he's the same guy who is the "Sommelier."

His name is Curt and he runs the bar for the owner who prefers not to bother.

He has a criminal record, likes young women and skims from the register to feed his coke habit.

He has a hand-written calendar he got free at the bank where he writes the name of the bands and sometimes remembers to even update it.

    "Talent buyer" LOL

    Have you met Gas-Man? Haha.

Personally I like to think a talent buyer is a generous term for someone who has just purchased an autotune rig, and maybe hired a decent band to make his vanity project really kick. Heh.

Sounds like a euphemism that could replace "john"

Euphemism for booking agent. He finds the bands, negotiates the pay, and books the shows. Usually works with or for the owner of a particular venue or several venues. We work with a guy who does more than that, since he's working with national acts. He works with the band management on their travel and hotel arrangements, transportation to and from the airport, and makes sure they have everything they want from gear to food and booze to you name it.

If there are problems (ex. Lita Ford's sound guy demanding all new microphones during a 6 hour soundcheck), the "talent buyer" or booking agent is supposed to find a solution and fade the heat.
