If I ever hear an envelope filter in a piece of music, I turn it right the fck off.
Screaming wife (mine).
I started playing in the 70s. There were few available effects. I appreciate all of them in the right situation.
Chorus. Hate chorus.
“What is an effect you hate?”
Every Kirk Hammett solo after about circa 1992.
(I hate wah..... but only when used by him. He shouldn’t use it as a crutch! He was/is a great player! Why Kirk?! Why?! Please make it stop......)
My best friend in junior high loved that Edie Brickell song (What I Am?) SO much just because of the envelope filter on the guitar solo. So he went out and bought one, and we played with it for like an hour....then....yeah... it got boring real quick!
As a side note, how many songs actually DO make use of an envelope filter? I can only think of 2.
Cocked Wah... its OK for a little sprinkling of colour here and there, but when used through a whole song, its easier listening to a kazoo.
Delay/Echo with too many, non-tempo'd, poorly EQ'd and mixed repeats - aka "ambience", "smoke and mirrors", "talent cloak" . Dudes... you are fooling nobody, we can hear your playing is sh**, spare us the extra sonic pain. And I haven't even mentioned shimmer yet.
Seasick chorus or vibrato. I actually feel nauseous when I hear it.
Vibrato is probably my least favorite guitar effect.
crappy Bright switch/TrebleBooster
Don't like playing with fuzz
That is other worldly! Thanks for posting that. Had never heard of Pete Drake before!
phase/pitch shifter is probably my least favourite.
but any effect can sound good, just not in my hands haha!
seasick vibrato or any detuning type effect like that I just wouldn't want to play it.
but it's all in the hands of the player.
I love a physical vibrato though (bigsby etc) and like phase, chorus, vibe, tremolo but use them subtlety.
The digitech Whammy can do some cool stuff, but I do not want......for the most part, yuck.
I really dislike bit crusher pedals
I'm sorry that you missed the boat in being able to score Nintendo games in 1983 but it's 2020 now, get a Fuzz Face like a normal person
There isn't a single effect that I dislike or couldn't find some use for. Everything has the potential to be interesting.
I don’t hate it, but I see no use for the tremolo effect.
