What is John Mayer using here?

Outside of the fantastic playing, what really peaks my interest here is that odd tele strat hybrid guitar that John is using. I can't really make out much on the headstock, although it looks like a normal strat head, so is it a Fender design? Sounds like a good strat ought to, with aesthetic twist for rockability onstage. Very cool combo, is it production available though?

It's a Fender Tele/Strat Hybrid, It's a master build by Chris Flemming. Not sure if they still make them.

It sounds fantastic. Wonder if it's his usual setup with a different body style...

Scero Guitars will make you one...really a nice guy..and great work....he's building me a S-style guitar as we speak! I was talking to him about building something fun and unique and he suggested a Strele build...just a thought!

Gets pretty similar tone in this clip with a different guitar:

It all sounds like an in between setting on a strat with the bridge/middle, John's tone is always great but a clean fender and a strat will get you close.

Pretty sure that tune is in a strange open E tuning too, always dug that one.

from low to high... i think that tuning is...

E-B-E-F#-B-E

it's a very cool song to play. i learned it a long time ago... then realized i was never going to go back to that tuning again... so i don't think i've played it again since the day i learned it....

+1 LMFAO. Let me do the honors- The guy owns about 300 guitars and can have Fender put together whatever he wants as he has it like that. No I am not a fan as something just rubs me the wrong way with Mayer. I will concede the guy is a very talented writer, performer and rhythm guitarist, but his lead playing would not even be brought up in any other decade as he plays with as much fire as a Snow Lily lol. When he first hit with the acoustic every song I thought was Dave Mathews. Then when I read an interview where he admitted to selling out to get his foot in the door so he could have some leverage to put out and play the music he really loves Blues/Rock I gave him a pass. That was until I bought the first two Trio albums where I dont think one song ever went faster than 80Bpm's. The nail in the coffin was the way he came across like a Dick in the Rolling Stone and Playboy interviews and sold out again with his so called pop album -though his next one is supposed to be his heaviest guitar album yet=yawn!

This will not end well.

How right you were only 1 post later. Haters gotta hate ...

Played the candy apple red version fo that guitar at Long and McQuade in Toronto. Interesting but very expensive. A hard sell for them ... it was around for quite some time.
