There was a period around '96-'97 when he was using a Klon.

I think what makes it sound like a wah or phaser is the tapping of the left hand, which is hidden behind the mic stand. Seems like an od or smth that he is stomping on...

It looks to me like he's flipping the pickup switch back and forth, and the effect is a Pube Screamer or something to get the trill to sustain.

Maybe he has the volume on the univibe cranked? Does it have a volume knob?

Whatever it is, it's not green. I'm pretty sure it's a Klon, but the video is so grainy it's hard to tell. Anyway, there's a Klon in the emporium for $450.

Sounds like that to me along with the switching pickups back and forth.

Definitely a Uni-Vibe type of pedal in there, with some kind of overdrive/boost pedal too. Look up the Mo-Faux Vibe, Magic Boy Vibe, Mojo Vibe, Deja Vibe etc. There are many types that will get you that sound.

He's got a Univibe style effect going the whole time - he kicks in a boost (TS probably) then hammers on while he's switching the pickups. The boost intensifies the vibe effect.
Man, he looks real young in that :AOK

I'm embarrassed that I know this because I'm not a fan of his music, but it's a real vintage Univibe. The amp is probably a hand-wired '65 Twin Reverb Reissue prototype.

I remember seeing that ACL with my wife on TV years ago. She commented on how good she thought he was. Then I put on the SRV El Mocambo video to give her a little perspective! That's how that music is supposed be played, baby! She noticed the difference too. It was hard for me to listen to him back in my SRV heydey.

No slam on KWS, he's fine - that vid just reminded me of the story.

I used to be a big fan. He was actually only using the original Univibe in the studio, live it was the Dunlop Reissue for a long time.
