Probably the komet 80 through the 4x12 with Celestion golds at the NY amp show.
Best all rounder, Carr Mercury V. Still have it, won't be letting it go.
If anyone can think of a better amp than that, please let me know about it.
A BF Bassman w/2x12 cab
a Vox AC30
a Marshall 2x12 JCM800 combo
a BF Super Reverb
I can't decide...
1963 Deluxe Reverb. Untouchable
Best amp I ever owned/played thru was a Fender 63' Vibroverb RI. I got mine the first year Fender started building reissue amps in the early 90's. Wish I still had that one.
The next one........Have had many favorites over the years but can never settle on just one. Closest is a Super Reverb.
Best for what? For large clubs? Small clubs? Festivals? Blues? Rock? No one amp is best for everything. And what sounded best in one room can barely sound good in the next room. Senseless question.
Some great ones,
65 bf deluxe
63 blonde bassman
and last and not least im getting some great gig tones from my monoprice 15w. Yeah thats right TGP.
Bob Marley's small box Plexi...now owned by Ziggy.
Close second 1959 I got from Bernie Torme 40 years ago.
Don’t worry man, at least you acknowledged it. LOL Every time there’s a “name your one favorite...” or “name the single best..” thread, no matter how many ways the OP says “one favorite” or “single” or “just one,” the average poster names at least 3 and 80% of the posters say “I can’t name just one.”
And that’s why I’m so proud of myself for doing what the OP actually asked, and listing ONLY THE ONE, that rules all others and I’d never part with. I do and will own others, but THE one, “the best” is:
Mesa TA30 (head - own this one)
Other that I have tried:
Rivera Knucklehead 100 half stack
Fender Princeton Reverb RI
Mesa Express 5:50 combo
Roland JC-120 combo
Orange Thunderverb 200 full stack
Mesa Subway Rocket combo
Mesa Triple Recto half stack
Marshall DSL100 half stack
Randall KH120R half stack, love this one the power amp section really do wonder to modelers.
Fender Deluxe and Twin Reverb as backline mostly
I don't even have to think about this one... Metropoulos Metroplex hands down.
For an all out metal tone it would be the Engl Inferno I played my ESP M-II through (with BK Aftermath Pickups) when I bought it.
that is a glorious sounding amp.
Other tones....other amps, but that one really stuck out to me.
Fender Vibro King
I wish I had the need for one.
Man I can’t do it, you know to Name only One, I try and I can’t, kudos to all those that named only one, nailing it, you score 100% on the test. I read through the thread, this is like The Who of Who on amps, all the creme de la creme, really all are great ones, many have been listed. Many on the list here I own and am glad to see they made your list too.
I am going to approach this problem from a different angle, I have a lot of best amps that I think are best for various and different reasons and so I hang onto them, and so I will try to list a fraction of them:
Vox AC30 60th anniv
CA OD2 JB mod
Sebago ODS Double Trouble 100W
Fender Dual Professional
Fender Joe Bonamassa HP Twin
Fender 57 Twin Amp
Fender 57 Custom Twin Amp
Fender Twinolux Eric Clapton
Fender 57 Bandmaster
Fender 67 Super Reverb
Fender HW 64 Deluxe
Fender 66 Vibrolux
Fender 66 Twin Reverb
Marshall 79 JMP MK2 Master Lead
Marshall JTM45 Offset
Marshall JTM45/100 Anniv
Marshall 1959 HW SLP
Marshall JCM800 2203
Marshall Bluesbreaker Combo
Germino Filmore 100
CA 67 50H
Colby Park 75LTD
Bogner Ecstasy 101B
Rivera Quiana with LoBottom
Mesa King Snake
Mesa 100W Tremoverb head
Mesa MK1 RI
Louis Electric Deltone
Suhr Bella Reverb
Tone King 20th Anniv Imperisl
Tone King SkyKing
Two Rock Crystal
Two Rock BD
Two Rock CLRS
Jim Kelley Suhr Reverb
Hiwatt 1972 DR103
These are all best amps that I play.
I have had many glorious vintage British heads from all eras. British combos as well..
If I had ONE amp that topped all of them as perhaps my "Desert Island" amp. It would be my Xits X-50. I was so dumb to sell it.
I have a current edition Bad Cat Black Cat 30R head that I have paired with a J Design 1x12 pine cab loaded with a Celestion Cream. Everything very balanced in this set up.
And this is the problem that I have, would miss on the list some that really need to be there, for example Suhr SL68 is my fav plexi and I did not list it, I know a bunch others are missing as well, oh well...
My current JMP 2204 EL-34 loaded with all vintage Mullard glass.
I grew up playing and cut my teeth on 70's/80's Marshalls.
They are home for me.
Another best I left out is the Suhr Bella Reveb,...
I currently own a Marshall JCM2000 (the original, not the reissue), a Marshall Vintage Modern and Mesa Mark Five:25... Of those the Mesa covers all the ground I need, the Marshall's are just there because I like them.
That being said, (and I know this isn't the popular answer here on TGP) I miss my Laney IRT30 combo. It was incredibly flexible, the watts knob was amazingly useable and it just sounded great to my ears once I switched the speaker out for an Eminence CV-75. I'm currently debating whether I should pick up one of the heads again and just run it through my Marshall 1960...
