Depends on your rig - I like the Fulldrive as an all around OD, blackface Fenders seem to like the Boss SD-1. the '59 Bassman likes the Tube Driver and Fulltone GT-500... All my opinion of course.

Out of all the $ I spent on dirt boxes, I never tried the Tube Screamer, but I have variants of it in my stash.

Sorry for the non-answer, but what else in your effects chain and what kind of music do you play?

Hi, to increase your odds of getting help you better state what you're after. Maybe by describing sounds of artists/band you like. Overdrive comes in so many flavours. Some prefer vanilla, others...etc

    Or try a search!

    Direct Drive
    Analogman Silver

These are my stock answers, they are all the best OD to use with a Strat.

I've love my Landgraff DO with the Strat. It has a three-way toggle switch giving you different sounds. It is an awesome pedal covering many styles and working great with all amps I've tested it on, but it is pricey (>$400). As a cheaper alternative, many people here on TGP have talked highly of the Mojo Drive from Lovekraft. It also has the three-way toggle switch, and according to people who have tried it (I haven't), have similar sounds. They'll run you anywhere from $100-110 used to $165 in a smaller footprint version with swirl paint direct from Lovekraft.

I just discovered a new one.... Fuchs Plush Extreme Clean. Two channels of differently voiced Tube Screamer-ish (but ooooohhh soooo smooth) drive. it's like the best Tube Sceamer you ever heard, through a nice smooth amp.

    I also like:

    Barber Direct Drive
    Barber LTD
    Barber Small Fry
    Keeley Blues Driver

These all work very well with Strats.

    For single coils?
    Maxon VOP9.
Nice tight bottom, sweet highs. Better than the OD9.

So far I haven't found anything that would bump the Boss SD-1 off of my pedalboard....and I've tried quite a few boutique and otherwise.
I've been using them for years.

Now, I did mod my main SD-1 with some of the Keeley based mods and I think iot sounds even better than stock, but it's still the best OD I've found.
The only mods I did were the increased Bass, increased Gain, and stacked JRC4558 chip mods.

The most recent OD I've tried was the Diamond J-Drive MK3.
It was a very good pedal but it just lacked that jangly, hollow mid, neck pickup sound that I like so much on a Strat.
The SD-1 was better in this regard and really let that sound come through.
I'm not saying it's the best there is, but just that I haven't found one better yet.

My Jaering DGTM is the best I've played w/my Strat Plus w/gold Lace sensors. I play through fender Super 60 or a Blues Jr., depending on the gig.

I can not deny this. But amp better be on verge of breaking up to make this work reproducibly well.

When amp very clean, LTD or BJFE Honey Bee are good. Or fuzz into Honey Bee! Make Honey like amp on verge of breaking up and layer Fuzz on top. Then use volume knob and pick/finger attack to dial in drive from light OD to wall of Fuzz.

    Yes.

This was roughly the 37th overdrive I tried when searching for "the" Strat overdrive. I haven't looked for a replacement, ever.

With single coils I like an OD with some nice mid content...I think that's one of the reason tubescreamers are so popular with strats...strats tend to be a bit lean in the mids (particularly the lower midrange), that's one of the reason they sound so clear and bell-like when played clean. When you kick them into distortion, I think some added mids helps them cut through.
NOT tubescreamers but also great w/strats:
The Tim sounds great w/ any guitar, especially if you want just a touch of OD. Subdecay Liquid Sunshine is also great...lots of control of the mids and highs. Great light OD pedal.
For more saturated lead, the Rat and Hotcake are also great.
    Just my 2 cents.
