What is the best way to get your music noticed for tv shows, ads, or music directors if you don't have a record deal? Say for example, I want the Music Directors at indie-rock stations to hear my music, what would be the best way for that to happen? Or Music Directors at an ad agency? Are there companies that specialize in doing this? Any specific recomenations? I don't have time to be directly emailing them - is there a thegearpage.net for Music Directors?

Know someone at these places...seriously is the answer.

I started out doing spot work for documentaries. Spot work eventually turned into score work.

If you're asking about original music placement a which I think you are, I would start with your publisher and ask them these questions.

I use both BMI and ASCAP depending one what I'm doing.

thx, guitarstar - I understand that having a direct relationship would be ideal but in my situation is impractical due to time constraints. I currently am just working crazy hours (like 80-90 per week) and would like to just see if there is any interest. I have the strong feeling it doesn't work this way. What if I don't have a publishing deal? Would breaking into this business be essentially the old-fashioned way? Or is there something like a soundcloud-pro service?

Are there legitimate people who would be able to do this for me if I pay them?

Try TAXI.

I just had a song placed on a few episodes of Access Hollywood via a TAXI pitch.

For airplay, a good Indie Promoter will get the job done.

A guy I worked with used one, and he got airplay for 2 separate records, great reviews and charted on the Americana charts.

The single on the 2nd record went to #1 for 2 weeks on a commercial station in Va Beach.

From that, he got a few placements on ESPN and some others.

I think he spent about 2-3K to the guy, for each record.

If he'd been able to follow it up w/touring, he might have had some success.
