We were out gallivanting the other day in upstate New York and I noticed an actual street sign name that blew my mind. Perhaps, considering this name, that was accurate.

The street sign actually said: BRUCE PORN RD

:dunno I don't even know where to start to comprehend this...

There are a few in the UK but the one that causes the most debate is Grope**** Lane. It really does mean what you think it means, and every now and again some local do gooder gets it changed to something innocuous, only for others to get it changed back. I don't know what it's currently named, although I know it makes the news from time to time.

BTW, the censored bit is the "Offensive C- word for female genitalia".

Reading online directions to a guitar get-together in northern Louisiana, you turn right on Ball Cutoff Road. Evidently takes you to Ball, La.

I always thought that word meant something different in the U.K, or at the very least, was much less offensive to women as it is here.

HoHum Dr, which branches off from the intersection of Ho Rd and Hum Rd in the aptly named town of Carefree AZ.

It gets used differently. In Australia that word is more often used colloquially as a light expletive term of endearment, e.g. "he's a good c***", like saying the word "mate", but only when the letter T is pronounced softly.

If the letter T is pronounced hard, then it's used in a derogatory and offensive way, e.g. "you f***ken c***!". I've rarely heard it used to refer to women's genitalia, but it still seems inappropriate. In fact a woman has said that the word originally means "Goddess", as vagina is meant to be an original word for scabbard as an analogue of female genitalia. I don't know the truth in that, but I guess it's a way to claim back the word to remove the negative use of it.

There's Woman Hollering Road, which runs along Woman Hollering Creek near Seguin, TX, which always made me wonder regarding the origin of the name...

It means exactly the same, considering it's an Old English word, of Old German and Dutch derivation. The difference here is, when used as an insult it's not specifically a derogatory term for a woman; it's a general term of abuse.

It's also - in some circumstances - not always as highly offensive as you may imagine. For example, you could call your friend a "Daft ****" and he wouldn't be offended. If, however, you were to say it to a stranger, you'd probably get filled in.

no pic to share, but there's a road not far from me called 'Lickert Harder' that elicits a chuckle from some people, or so I'm told.

Not far from here we have a Goose Butt Street and even closer by, there's Packman Road. Whenever we drive along that one, the kids start yelling "Wakka wakka wakka wakka woo woo woo..."
