Since this is TGP, I will add that this is a 1993 Collings D2H.

Interesting. Yeah, it sounds exactly like that. But I have never heard that song before. Also, the lick I am thinking of is definitely on electric guitar. Any other guesses?

well since you are going from a suspended (E right?) chord to an E7 or a E major- (droning against the root E) sounds like a 'device' used often in rock- I first thought of the Allman Bros. 'Dreams' (I know that song is in a different key/chord posotion, but similar) because I'm old!

it's a very common harmonic movement in popular musics,
and has been so for g-d-(& authoritative musicologists)-knows-how-long.

still, like every other musical convention or trope,
you can make it more "your own", via:
context, melody, rhythm, sounds, arrangement etc.
