I can only vote for the ones I've played in person, which would be Optical and OTA (with a clean blend)

Haven't played them all, but my current favorite is the Fairfield Circuitry Accountant. Small sized, simple controlled JFET.

I haven’t used many compressors but I own an SP, a Keeley and a Philosopher’s Tone Mini.

I've settled with the MXR Dyna Comp Deluxe, old fashioned sound with some modern options (dry mix, Attack) when needed.. And a lot quitter as the original

Here is a list I put together of various popular Compressor pedals which are arranged into their "types". If y'all see any errors/corrections, please let me know! I am definitely not a Compressor expert, just a gearhead considering making moves. I'm currently rocking a Katanasound Blue Stripe (FET).

I voted multiband and FET because I really like my CP-1X and the Rothwell Love Squeeze. Different beasts, but equally great.

Oh come on I can’t be the only one who likes VCAs. All those bassists like their dbx 160s for a reason!

That looks like it took quite a bit of effort and research. I don't really segregate compressors by type in this way, but seeing it done is still interesting.

So thanks for the effort and research!

By that list, most of my favs are optical, but I'm currently stuck on a DC Deluxe.

Nice work on that list btw, thank you @Prince

I love compressors. Have a SP now... owned MXR super comp and custom comp. Curious about the optic version vs the ota. I’ve also heard a lot of great things about Cali76. That’s pretty expensive though.

Here is the full list of pedals ranked by their overall "points". I didn't want to post this earlier to throw off the poll results, but it looks like we are deep enough into the poll for it to have some "validity" / "objectivity" / ""science"".

Points = # of votes/nods by various forum members on TGP, TDPRI, Gearslutz, Reddit, etc.. My methodology is I go through various "best of" threads on various forums, starting with the most recent and working backward. I keep track of the username & year attached to each point. If in an older thread that username makes a different (or the same) suggestion, I stick with their most recent point.

I use an Orange Kongpressor, so I voted optical. To be fair, it’s the only compression I’ve ever used or owned, but at the same time though, it also does exactly what I want and sounds great so can’t say I have an urge to try others.
