What seems to be the local favorite?
None of the above.
I like Telam and Tesla. Expensive and hard to find but worth it.
why do the JJ tubes say Tesla on them? I know that they're not the same thing...are they?
Tesla is now owned by a company called JJ. Therefore JJ Tesla. These are not the same as the old Tesla brand. I LOVE Tesla hexplates in my 18 watter as well as mullards. I have a nice variety of els including bugle boy 7189s, POLAM Telams, amperex holland, tons o mullard, saratov( russian) and surprisingly, i do not have any US EL84s. I have this weird thing about tubes. I prefer foriegn tubes in marshalls and american tubes in fenders! Silly?
Oh and back to the poll, I guess since it ios basically new manufacture, I would say JJ. They are hardy and stand up well to abuse and sound pretty darn good when the 18 watter is dimed!
Polams for me, fantastic valve. Of the modern, I'd go for JJ
The name of the current company is JJ Electronics. There is no "Tesla" in their name, but many tube sellers continue to erroneously associate "Tesla" with the current-production tubes. In my opinion, this only serves to confuse people. NOS Tesla tubes are worthy of their own distinction, separate from JJ.
As for this poll, my favorite EL84 is not on the list.
JJ is what I have now...no complaints.
I have just put the 2 NOS Telams into my Koch Studiotone
I have payed around 13 EUR for both (sic!)
How is this possible? You just have to know polish and search through:
