I've been trying a bunch of differnent guitar cables over the past couple of weeks to hear the differences. What kind of guitar cables are you using and why? I know it's been talked about a bunch and it's very subjective but I'd like to hear about what is working for people... especially those that play live with a band. I find most cables are too bright somewhere in the upper frequencies.

    Right now I am testing:

    George L's
    Pro Co
    Monster
    Dimarzio
    Cornish
    Spectraflex
    Lava

I tried a Planetwaves cable at Leon C's studio the other day and it sounded pretty darn good. Believe it or not the cheap Pro Co sounds as good or better than anything I have tried.

So what are you guys using?

    Thanks

I use Pro Co Guardian cable. It's a directional cable and very heavy duty. Fat stuff! Also, Pro Co has a lifetime warranty on some of their cables. No matter what happens, you're covered.

I trashed two of these and they aren't cheap. They replaced them both and both times it was my fault.

I even offered to take just a repair job and to pay for the repair. They would have none of it. New cable.

BTW, the Guardian 20ft cable retails for about $98 but you'll find it for a whole lot less.

It isn't about one thing or another being "the best", as in most music-related things. It's about your own tastes and opinions. If ProCo sounds as good as any of the other stuff, on your rig, with your ears, WTF, pocket the extra coin you save!

I use Canare, TR, GeorgeL's, and Mogami depending as much on my mood as anything else. They all sound a bit different, and they all sound good.

I refer you to the "post your cable reviews thread" in the effects strings and things forum - a lot of good information!

i also have some george L's, but they sound a bit too brittle to me.

I've used both Pro Co and Planet Waves. Like em both but have been using the Pro Cos more lately.

I'm using the Pro Co cables for most of my grab and go jams...had Lord Valve make up my pedal board to amp, guitar to pedal board cables, George L's for the pedal board itself.

I'm not griping to anyone about my tone....;)

So LV used PC on your long cables or something else? I'm diggin' my super old PC cables right now. They sound more balanced and quite musical. The fancy stuff sounds plain bright to me... with the exception of the Cornish cable.

Plant Waves between guitar and effects - between different effects and to the amp - George L's.

since your complaint was specific, let's maybe quit randomly making recommendations and start with a diagnosis. what are you playing through? amp? guitar(s)? pedals + connectors?

I've always used Whirlwind Leader Elite (if you can stand the stiffness) and Spectra-flex cables.

i use evidence audio because they are expensive. if they are expensive, they must sound good...

all kidding aside i bought them to try them out. liked them a lot mroe than my monster cable. stopped looking at others so i dont know if any of the other high end cables compare. also the stiffness is something i like.
